I JUST RECENTLY BECAME THE FOSTER MOTHER TO 4 KITTENS THAT WERE LEFT IN
A DUMPSTER IN A SEALED BOX. THEY WERE BARELY 4 WEEKS, CLOSER TO 3 WEEKS
OLD. THEY WERE DEHYDRATED, MALNOURISHED, TRAUMATIZED, AND IN GENERAL
POOR HEALTH. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A DOG PERSON, BUT THE SIGHT OF THESE
POOR BABIES WHEN THEY WERE DELIVERED TO ME TO DO SOMETHING TO SAVE THEM,
BROKE MY HEART, BUT BROUGHT OUT THE MOTHER IN ME, HAVING FOSTER CARED
FOR MANY A PUP. I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO FEED BY DROPPER SINCE THEY ATE THE
BOTTLE NIPPLE AND FED THEM EVERY 4 HOURS. I GAVE THEM LOVE, THOUGH THEY
WANTED NO PART OF ME. I CLEANED THEM, DRIED THEM, KISSED AND STROKED
THEM. THEY LEARNED THE LITTER BOX THE FIRST TRY. THEY WEANED LIKE
CHAMPS. THEY ARE VERY LOVING, VERY SECURE AND NOW GAINING WEIGHT AND
PERSONALITIES. JUST ABOUT 6 WEEKS NOW. MY VET GAVE THEM A 30 PERCENT
CHANCE TO EVEN MAKE IT A WEEK, I NEVER FEARED LOSING ANY OF THEM. I NOW
AM GOING TO LOOK FOR NEW PARENTS FOR THEM THOUGH I WILL NOT LET THEM GO
FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS TO GET THEIR WEIGHT UP TO NORMAL. MY REASON FOR
WRITING IS TO SAY, SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR ANIMALS. DO NOT DUMP UNWANTED
PETS OR BABIES INTO THE WILD, OR A DUMPSTER, THINKING THEY WILL REVERT
TO NATURAL WILD BEHAVIOR. THE POUND IS RIGHT NOW GASSING THOUSANDS OF
UNWANTED KITTENS. THE RESCUE GROUPS ARE OVERWHELMED WITH BABIES AND WANT
NO MORE AT THE MOMENT. IF YOU FIND DISCARDED AND ABANDONED ANIMALS, THE
TIME YOU SPEND IN RESCUE AND FOSTER PARENTING,IS REWARDING AND
SATISFYING, NO MATTER IF YOU CARE FOR THE BREED OR THE TYPE OF ANIMAL
FOUND. TAKE IT FROM ME, THE LAST 3 WEEKS OF KITTY MOTHERING HAVE BEEN
THE MOST HEARTWARMING AND FUFILLING NOW THAT I AM ABLE TO SLEEP THE
NIGHT AND THEM TOO. THINK ABOUT IT, THE NEXT TIME YOUR ANIMAL COMES IN
HEAT, TO NOT ALLOW IT TO BREED, AND IF YOU DO END UP WITH UNWANTED
BABIES, CONSIDER THEM YOUR RESPONSIBILITY NOT JUST A BURDEN. DO NOT DUMP
THEM INTO DUMSPTERS OR LET THEM LOOSE TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES. THEY DID
NOT ASK TO BE BORN INTO THIS WORLD OR TO YOU, THEY ARE A SMALL LIFE THAT
DEPENDS ON YOU TO SURVIVE, AND THE SOONER YOU SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR
ANIMAL, THE RISK OF BRINGING IN UNWANTED LITTERS WILL BE OVER WITH, SO
DO IT TODAY. RONI DILLON, ROSEVILLE, CA alderdillon@webtv.net

know how you feel...on may 21 i took in 6 kittens that were left behind
a school...2 were sorta ok in box  but 4 were soaked...picked them out
of the woods  i hand raised from day old(cords still on)  and managed to
save three...the other three died(two on day five one at 2 weeks old..
they just had thier first birthday(may 21)  its unbelivable how many
stories like this are like this...what doess it take to just  not take
in the cat or GET IT FIXED...area im in is like this...alot of unfixed
cats and free breeding. i guess the lucky kittens get found but  jsut
shouldnt come down to luck.

DEAR KITTYTEDDY,
I APPLAUD YOU AND YOUR SUCCESS ON HAVING ANY SURVIVE.  LOTS OF WORK AND
LOTS OF LOVE TOO, I KNOW.
I MADE A COPY OF MY POST AND TOOK ONE TO PETCO AND PETSMART TO PLACE ON
THE TABLE DURING KITTY ADOPTION WEEKENDS.  HOPEFULLY IT WILL DO SOME
GOOD.
THANKS FOR REPLYING AND SHARING YOUR STORY WITH ME.  IT MEANT ALOT.
I WAS IN LINE AT PETSMART WITH 5 INSTANT ADOPTIVE KITTY PARENTS.  ONE
LADY SAID SHE HAD 5 DUMPED ON HER DOORSTEP, WIT A NOTE THAT MAYBE HER
CAT WOULD FOSTER MOTHER THEM.  HER CAT IS A TOMCAT.
SO, SHE LIKE ME, IS PLAYING MOTHER, AS ARE MANY OTHER FOSTER PARENTS
RIGHT NOW, BY CHOICE, LUCK OR BY KINDHEARTED CIRCUMSTANCE.  I APPLAUD
ALL OF THOSE FOSTER PARENTS FOR THE TIRING BUT SATISFYING LOVING TLC
THEY GIVE TO UNWANTED BABIES OUT THERE.  NOW IF WE CAN JUST FIND THEM
EQUALLY LOVING HOMES TOO!!

*Please* don't shout (all caps is shouting).  In addition to being
shouting, all caps is harder to read than properly mixed case.

Ted,

Please refer to Roni's response in alt.pets.cats (thread of the same name).
I had the same reaction as you until I read her reply.  (Very short
summation:  she had a stroke last Thanksgiving and has difficulty with
vision and with use of her left hand.  I would say she is doing remarkably
well, now that I know this.)
