Skeeter The Cat
The runt of a litter of 12, our Skeet was born rough, the product of a mom
who was 1/2 bobcat and a real hard case. Skeet's markings are that of a
bobcat, but she sports a long and proud tail, something har other siblings
were born without. My son Damon and his wife Brandi brought two kits home
one day, one from a black and white mom and then there was Skeet. Bobcat
mixes are definitely not house cat material so both kits had to be placed
outside. Our nieghborhood owl dined on the little black and white kit the
first night but tough little Skeeter was there to stay.
She is the toughest cat I ever had the pleasure of sharing a home with.
Skeet is a top hunter and always brings us her kills. Her favorite
passtime is bringing in snakes and placing them in front of the men of the
house, she quickly learned that the guys really hate snakes and loves to
see them dance around when she brings them. She's my personal security
guard always making the dogs appear useless. The dogs just yap but she
stalks, then either contains or escorts the intruder all the way off the
property. Once there was a giant of a man...very intoxicated who was
trying to force his way in my front door.
Skeet jumped up on the plant stand and convinced him in very threatening
body language to leave without ever unsheathing a claw. What a cat! she
is 12 now and is still lithe and doing a great job. Skeeter's favorite
fresh food is mole and gopher. She manages her colonies of mole and gopher
just like a cattle rancher manages herds of beef. She is a expert in
animal control, biological balance, and conservation. I have learned more
from watching her than any of the books I read on those subjects.
Note I kept this brief because you a a master craftsman We hope Skeet's
personality can live on in your books.
