Ok, my cat just went into heat, she is 8 mths old and this is the first time
she has gone into heat, this being Friday nite and not getting paid for 2
weeks, any suggestions as to anything I can do/give her to help her out.
Any advice would be appreciated, I don't anticipate getting a lot of sleep
unless I lock her in a room and I don't want to do that because I think it's
cruel for a cat to be locked in a room all the time. PLEASE PLEASE GIVE ME
ANYTHING YOU HAVE THAT CAN HELP ME!!!!!!

Keep the cat in the house! Unfortunately, once a female cat goes into heat,
she will do as repeatedly (as often as every two weeks) until she is either:
(a) pregnant or (b) spayed. It is extremely uncomfortable for her and will
get worse rather than better. Your veterinarian may be able to give her
shots to make her more comfortable. At one time, they gave male hormones,
but I think that practice has been discontinued. Spaying your pet is the
only way to put a permanent stop to the trouble. This is the best strategy,
not only for preventing unwanted pregnancies but also for preventing the
discomfort that accompanies the cycles for the cat and yourself. Although
your cat may seem to have a one-track mind, she'll still appreciate getting
other forms of attention. Try playing a game with a favorite toy and try to
keep the pet isolated as much as possible in a bathroom or a crate that's
easily cleaned. I know you are not going to be paid for another two weeks,
but you are going to have to make the best of the situation. You can try
putting the cat in the bathroom at night. Just be sure to put its food,
water, and litter box in the bathroom and turn out the lights. It's not
cruel. Just don't let the cat outside! I strongly recommend that you contact
your vet right away and set up an appointment for her to be spayed, unless
you are planning to breed her. It is the only way to stop her current
behavior, and she will be healthier in the end.

Lock her in the room -- If you let her out, you've got kittens!

1) Did you plan to breed your cat? If so...did you do any research on it?
2) If you didn't plan to breed..why didn't you have her spayed?
3) Do any reading on how to take care of a pet cat?
Take an a couple of hours..do a search on google and see how to cope with a cat
in heat. Also, try to learn a bit about cat care..and..if you aren't breeding
(and it doesn't sound like you will..not having a clue about it)....do another
quick search on low-cost facilities that offer spaying at a reduced rate.
Spaying your cat will 1) prevent ovarian cancer and 2) will prevent unwanted
pregnancies....ya know...kittens born (adding to the thousands of kittens/cats
without homes).

In response to what you said :
1) I don't plan on breeding her therefore there was no need for me to do
research on it.
2) She isn't spayed because she is still very young and as I stated in an
earlier reply in speaking with vets in my area they will do it at 6 mths old
but prefer the cat to be older.
3) Yes I did do reading on how to take care of a cat, did you do any reading
on how to be polite to someone who is asking for help on a public forum
because all I did was ask for help about coping during heat. I didn't ask
about other info on taking care of a cat, because I have already researched.
I didn't appreciate your comments and the attitude in your post. In future,
if you don't have anything to offer, DON'T POST.

I posted a response to your original post. There was no reference made in your
original post that there was a previous post (where I would have read any
related history of this). It's true that I often choose to reply more harshly
than diplomatically. As a feline rescue volunteer for several years, I've seen
hundreds and hundreds of people who surrender their (3 month to 17 year old)
pets with no more thought than getting rid of an old car....other people who
had no idea that allowing their cat outside (without spaying the cat first)
would result in a pregnancy...other people who let their cat outside in a high
traffic area who could not fathom that the cat wouldn't avoid cars coming from
all directions and be alive to tell the tale..etc. Only one situation (above)
related to your situation, but, I responded - as I usually do - in a more
caustic tone than was necessary. Me sowwwwy.

Alright, apology accepted. I absolutely love my cat and wouldn't get rid of
her for the world. Yes I have not gotten more than a few hours sleep at a
time in the past couple of days but I am coping with it. I'm also spending
more time in the room with her because she is lonely in there. But I can
understand your situation and your point of view, but like I said, if you
didn't post so harshly then you might get better responses. :)

Going into heat is perfectly natural for the cat, but can be hell for
the owner.
Obviously, keep her indoors, do anything you can to calm her, and just
wait it out - as a first heat it should be over with in a few days.
If you do not intend to breed from her, then you really need to get
her neutered as soon as possible. Once she is out of heat then book
her in at the vets as soon as you can.
