Weak tendons

I noticed today one of the kitties I rescued last year (she should be
around 13 or 14 months now) seems to have weak or stretched forelimb
tendons. Her "wrists", instead of bending only backwards, can bend
forward to a considerable degree (almost as much as we can). Has
anyone seen this before? I´m wondering if it´s genetic, or if it´s a
malformation perhaps due to her mom starving while pregnant and on the
first month of nursing. She was the weakest kitten. I´m also wondering
if this can (or should) be fixed.

Hi Liz

My cat regularly rests her head on her (bent back the wrong way) paw.  She
looks like a person considering something profound!!  I think it's just a
quirk.  I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, my cat's fine.

really?? I'd LOVE to see a picture of that. Do you have one?

Thanks Jeannie! :) Has your kitty been like that for a long time? What
made me notice this kitten now is that her paws are beginning to
bother her. I have been looking for info on this and it doesn´t look
good. Technically, it´s called a sprain of the carpi ligaments. Seems
there are two choices, either have her imobilized for two months (she
has it on both paws) or put her through surgery. But if she´s
malformed, the problem will come back. I´m going to see a specialist
Monday to see what he advises. Meanwhile, I´m getting all the info I
can on the problem. Also, has a vet seen your kitty´s wrist bend
forward like that and said nothing about it? You haven´t noticed any
signs of pain, like your kitty holding her paw up when she´s sitting?
My kitty doesn´t limp but she always holds one of her paws up when she
sits and she´s also extra careful when she climbs down from a chair,
for instance. So I´m convinced she feels pain to some degree.

Liz, I'm sorry to hear about your kitty.  Please let us know what the vet says.
