Is it possible to give a cat too much petroleum jelly? ie Any detrimental
side effects?

Thanks.

A small amount occasionally probably wouldn't hurt.  Why not buy a
tube pf Petromalt or  a little olive oil if she needs "lubricating".

I just leave a small jar of vaseline on the floor of our porch and the
cats help themselves whenever they're in the mood. Haven't had a
hairball problem in years.

a doctor told me (a long time ago) that mineral oil and vaseline (coal
tar products) prevent the absorption of vitamins and should not be
used on a regular basis.  MLB

Amy...My vet said to give it about 1 hour before or after feeding because it
can effect the absorbsion of nutrients. I only give a small amount on the paw
of my Siamese once aday for his constipation problems. I hope this helps..

Probably nothing serious - I mean, it's used for a hairball remedy.  Just
watch the stools in case they have too much of a laxative thing going.
