The vet prescribed an antihistamine called cyproheptadine for Kato and
she responded immediately by eating a sizable amount of kibble and
tuna and some juice from a couple of cans of tuna. I don't know why an
antihistamine stimulates appetite in cats but at this point I don't
care.  I just hope that she keeps her appetite. The vet couldn't
explain why she wouldn't eat.  Teeth good and physical condition very
good on examination, especially for an old cat.

Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions.

Kato and I are sharing a can of tuna in celebration. :- )

I understand that at this point you don't care and I don't know why this
antihistamine stimulates feline appetites, but from what I've read, it does.
I also read that it does not cure the "underlying disease."

If you're interested in the answers that your vet isn't able to provide, you
can always ask for a referal to a specialist.

Best wishes to you and Kato!
