Kitten Trouble

My Kitten is just 6 months old. We were recently gone for a month and when
we returned she'd complete undergone a personality change. She was a normal,
sunny natured, playful kitten and now I can't intice her to play or eat. She
sleeps a lot. While we were gone the housesitter said she was gone for 2
days and came back with a strange odor. I was guessing she came into heat
but don't know.

Now she exhibits this strangely lethargicness, vomits and eats very little.
If she is pregnant... do cats get morning sickness?

Take her to the vet. She may have gotten into something poisonous. It is
one of the many dangers for indoor/outdoor cats. Time may be limited if
she got poisoned by a plant, antifreeze, or other toxin.

Have them spay her while you're there. There's enough unwanted kittens
in the world. They can spay her regardless if she's pregnant and if she
isn't, she'll keep going into heat every few weeks until she mates
(frequency of heat depending on many factors).

Go to http://www.google.com and enter PLANTS POISONOUS TO PETS in the
search box. About the third "hit" down will be a site that lists over
500 plants that are poisonous.

Hi Mike ,
I found one pertaining to Uk plants as the OP and I are from the Uk
Interestingly, it seems that "free roamimg" cats are less at danger
fron eating plants than one not free roaming .

http://www.cat77.org.uk/articles/poison.htm
This list is not exhaustive, but one must also apply a sense of
proportion. Even if you uproot all possible harmful plants in your
garden a cat could still wander into a neighbour's garden and find
them growing there. Some plants smell and taste repulsive to cats and
most cats retain many of their wild instincts, therefore they know
which plants are edible. However, when a cat leads a more enclosed
life and does not have the choice of plants to eat it is less likely
to differentiate between good and bad ones.

how long have you been back?  she may be sulking
how much time did the sitter spend with her compaired to you?

yes cats can get morning sickness..... I really hope she is not pregnant she
is far too young :-(   I suggest taken her to the vet asap

hope everything is fine, if you do not intend to breed her you really should
not let her out till you have her spayed and if you do intend to breed her
please keep her in until she is at least a year old or her second heat
before you let her bred.  Then you choose a stud for her don't just let any
old male mate her, this is why we have so many ill cats around.  Snap blood
test should always be done on both Queen and stud before mating!

It never ceases to amaze me that people post in a newsgroup about
something wrong with their cat asking for help without considering
taking them to the vet first.

You basically left a kitten alone for one month during a very formative
period of its life... what did you expect?

I am stunned at eicher62 @yahoo.com who vacantly writes

Perhaps you are a TROLL..perhaps just someone who had an attack of being a
jerk. Sorry..I lost some diplomacy skills today. I presume you were told of the
facts of life at some point in your life. You let an unspayed female cat
outside? What plans were made for the kittens - if kittens were born? Were you
going to take them all in?

Also, I hope that you schooled your not-quite-adult-cat about the differences
between red & green traffic signals, how to look both ways before crossing the
street, NOT to eat or drink any toxic substances (even car coolant/antifreeze,
which is pleasant tasting and causes seizures and a painful death), to avoid
any big dogs/wild animals who can maim or kill her, etc.

Well, I guess you all are ready to pass judgement on me without knowing all
the facts. I only outlined those that I thought were important and was
soundly judged without a fair trial.

Thanks to those of you that had some helpful input. I hope the rest of you
are as nice to animal lovers and you are to animals. You sure have to
manners of primates!

Don't bother responding to me as I won't bother reading any more of your
diabtribe. You were all mostly basically unhelpful.

Audious!
