How long does wet food remain okay to eat?

So, many of you know I've been trying to convince my cats that wet food
is a good thing. We're making some progress. However, they don't like to
eat fast. They are used to being free-fed and like to nibble, not scarf.
In trying to get them to eat wet food, I've been taking up the dry at
night and leaving wet. They didn't go for that for quite some time (just
licked off the gravy and left the rest), but now they are eating almost
all of it by morning. However, they don't eat it all at once. They munch
all night.

My question is - is this okay for them? Would the wet "go bad"?
If this is how I can get them to eat it and they won't get sick from
eating wet food that was down all night (approx. 10 hours), I have no
problems with leaving it out. I'd rather they eat the wet, since it's
better for them.

Thoughts?

Well.... sample some yourself from time to time during the day.  You
should be able to distinguish when the food is no longer palatable.

Hi,

We used to feed our cat 2 poaches a day, but we've reduced it to biscuits in
the daytime and wet food in the evening.

We did this mainly as during the summer months, here in teh UK we actually
had a really hot summer, and therefore it seems more flys were about. You
just need to watch that flys dont get into the areas where you have the wet
food down, it's best to try cover it up or someway stop the flys getting to
it, otherwise they'll lay their eggs and maggots will appear not that long
after.

Not a problem. My cats are indoor only and there are no flies in my
flat.  :)

About an hour depending on the temperature.  It would be best if you
gave them (IMO) three small meals a day if you are home.   Leave the
dry food out at night or if you are away.  Treat their wet food the
same as you would your own.  They really don't need to eat a lot
duroing the night.   MLB

Leave the wet food out for 1/2 hour.

What isn't eaten throw out.

Sounds wasteful, but through trial & error you will learn just how much
to put out so there will be very little to toss out.

After it has been out for that long, 10 hours, it is definitely started
on the road to the trash.

I agree with the comments of MLB.

Have to say that I agree.

Matilda gets 4 small portions (half a small tin per serving) each day. She
gets half a tin first thing in the morning before she goes out. An hour
later she comes in and gets the other half. When we return from work she
gets another half tin, goes out and when she returns she snarfs down the
other half.

Dry food is available 24/7 for nibbling on during the day and over night.
