Will this work to get rid of fleas?

I found some flea drops at a store that only contain the IGR Precor
(methoprene). So they're only good for preventing the eggs from
maturing for up to three months. If I use that on my indoor only cats
and brush them with a flea comb at least once a day, will that be a
good enough flea control for the cats? Right now I'm only finding
maybe 1-3 fleas per cat, per day (I have two cats). I intend to use
flea carpet powder and then vacuum the entire house and then treat the
carpets and furniture with a spray that contains a flea killer plus an
IGR. There doesn't seem to be too many fleas especially with the cool
weather coming.

So would all that be enough? I do have some Advantage and Frontline
but I prefer to use them in the spring and summer when the fleas tend
to be worse. If you don't think that's good enough I heard there are
some natural adult flea repellants that are safe for cats. Would
anyone know what those would be?

Hi
I recently asked pretty much the same question as you on the store bought
products and after a responses and research on my own I would suggest you
use the advantage or frontline on the kitties as most of the over the
counter stuff is very dangerous and sure you may save a buck on the
treatement buty ou may have vet bills that will exced what you would have
saved if your cat's experience one of the many bad side effects of the over
the counter stuff.  Also if you want to save a few buck you could always get
the large dog size tubes and break down the dosage like I did.  You can see
the link on how to here  http://www.lisaviolet.com/cathouse/advantage.html
I bought the large dog 6 pack here in canada for 75 dollars and used 2 vials
for 4 cats and 2 dogs so I can treat mine for 3 months.  If you only have 2
cats than you could treat them for 15 months since each vial would last you
5 treatments or 2 treatments per cat and then 1 treatment left over.  Also
I'm not sure about the powder you put on the carpet that you buy at the Pet
store so i'm not sure how safe it is.

In addition you can look for posts made by me in the past 2 weeks under
Lauralai and Laura on fleas and read what people said when they responded

This product contains the EXACT same ingredients as Frontline except
that it doesn't contain fipronil which is what kills the fleas. It
contains Precor and less than what's in Frontline. So if you're
telling me that this product isn't safe then Frontline sure as heck
isn't safe either.
Just because it's an over-the-counter product it doesn't mean that
it's not safe. You just have to read the ingredients and know what's
safe and what isn't. I listed the ingredients in the product I was
talking about on my first post. Assuming that all over-the-counter
flea products aren't safe is like discrimination or something.
That alright though, I contacted the veterinarian and he said it was
ok to use.

And about the powder/spray. I was planning on putting my cats in the
basement for several hours so they wouldn't have to inhale that. The
vet said that a good idea. And the basement is fixed up real nice and
they like it down there anyway so don't worry about that.

Perhaps I asked my original question incorrectly. What I should have
said is: Is using a veterinarian, EPA, etc. etc. approved Insect
Growth Regulator (IGR) on my cats and combing them everyday with a
flea comb a good enough flea control for a minor infestation?

Diamtomaceous earth, but only the "food grade."  I've never used it so I can't
tell you whether or not it works.
