My female cat likes to have her head scratched.  She usually opens her mouth
while I scratch, and tonight she made some snorting noises.  Is there
something wrong?

I suspect she was just totally blissed out.  *snort* "Oh, that feels so

hey,

My female cat does the same thing when we use our finger or brush to stroke
the tip of nose and move up. She does it with her mouth open and loundly,
she sounds like a nutter :)
