Greenies for Cats?

I just got this ad in my email because I've purchased from Pet Edge
in the past. A friend with dogs swears by Greenies for dogs for
dental care. Anyone have any input about these new ones for cats?

I don't think the ones for cats are actual Greenies. I bought some called
Hip Chips (made by the same company) that contain glucosamine & chondroitin.
Tiger, Stinky & Harriet all love them. Otto doesn't like most cat treats,
except for freeze dried chicken & CET Chews.

I don't think the Hip Chips are meant to have any dental benefits. They're
very small, and are somewhere between soft & crunchy treats. I think
they're more for joints. I have seen some very small Greenies, treat sized,
but those were also marked for dogs, not cats.

I keep forgetting to get some freeze dried chicken to try out for
treats. I don't give treats often, but it's good to have something
they like.

My vet gave me a small sample pack of Feline Greenies today. The cats do
seem to like them. Are they available from places like petsmart or do you
have to mail-order them?

They should be available at Pet Smart. They were handing out free samples
there.

Did you vet say whether they are any good for the cat or not?

She just offered it as an alternative treat food that would be better
than soft treats (which I don't give anyway unless as a reward for taking
meds), but she doesn't want any of the cats getting more than a few
pieces a day.

I just found some of these in a store by work yesterday. I had already
bought some Hip Chips, made by the same company, that my cat Tiger loves.
She also likes the Greenies. I only bought a small sample size because I've
stopped giving all of the cats many treats. Now they mostly only get freeze
dried chicken, which they prefer over any other treat anyway. One cat just
swallowed the mini cat Greenies whole, so she's not getting any dental
benefit from them, and I think that's the point of the Greenies.
