Our 10 year old Siamese mix eats string, plastic, thread, fringe, rubber
bands, paper, ribbon, anything she can find. She has done this for years. We
try to hide or put away anything we see that we think she might eat, but she
always comes up with something, even if it's a little string from the
carpet. Consequently she vomits a lot - sometimes she throws up even when
she hasn't eaten any strange things.
She is a very high-strung cat, irritable a lot, but loving too.
Any ideas on what this is all about and how we can make her stop?

Lots of tips here. It's kind of common with some siamese.

Thanks for the information - I have never heard of pica before. I'll have
to make an appointment for her.

Our cat Ginger does the same with ribbons. We adopted her when she was
1.5, and it was just after my birthday. DH had gotten me balloons with
ribbons. A few days later, Ginger was not her normal self. She was
not playing, and was just sitting around a lot. Next thing you know,
she vomits technicolor ribbons!
Ever since then, we have immediately cut off all ribbons on balloons
and replaced them with string, she has no taste for string!
