Don't know if this issue has been discussed in here or not but after
reading reports online that Fabreze may be toxic to pets like to hear
comments from fellow cat owners if the use of this product shouldn't be
used in cat housewholes or just an online rumor.TIA

It's still not a great idea to use freshners too much around pets.

It's not a good idea to use any scented thing like this.  What smells OK to
use can be a night mare for a cat & dogs scenses.  Not to mention if they
are predisposed to allergies or asthma this can be life threatening in some
cases.

My cats are fortunate in this aspect.  I can't stand air fresheners so
the cats are rarely exposed to them.

There was a big discussion about this about 5 years ago I recall. I
think Febreeze even had to issue a statement about it. There *was* one
man who claimed his cat choked up terribly every time he used it. Could
have been that particular kitty's allergy though.
I can't see that Febreeze would be any worse than any other air
freshener. I think any of them, you need to use them sparingly. Cats
olfactory senses are just so much more sensitive than ours.

My dogs and cats *hate* the stuff.  I used it in my old car and the
dogs refused to get into it.  They say it is safe, but I'm not taking
any chances after T&T's reaction to it.

What I thought was so bizarre is the endorsement they got after the
controversey started. Who was it, the ASPCA? Can't remember which
organization it was, but it was really peculiar that it showed up on
the bottle.

Wonder if the manufacturer has made a statement about whether Febreze is pet-
friendly.  I have been wondering as I watch their ads on TV.  That would
resolve the inquiry, I think.  I'd do it right now but am searching here for
other info because my kitty is sick.  Sorry!

Snopes isn't always right (Although it probably is in this case)

It amused me that just after the rumours started, the Febreze adverts
(in the UK at least) featured various pets, almost as if the
manufacturers were saying "Look! It's safe after all!"

There's a Snopes entry on this:

http://www.snopes.com/toxins/febreze.htm

'The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA),
the nation's leading authority on pet safety, has investigated these
rumors and issued the following statement:

"Based on a thorough review by veterinary toxicologists at The ASPCA
National Animal Poison Control Center, together with other outside
experts, The ASPCA considers Febreze safe in households with dogs and
cats when used as directed."

This information is aimed primarily at dog and cat owners; Febreze
acknowledges that consumers should be cautious about using Febreze (or
any other aerosol or spray product) around birds:

"However, as birds are uniquely sensitive to some airborne
household products and environmental factors, experts recommend
removing the bird from the room until the product application has fully
ventilated, like you would do with any household cleaning product."

Of course, the statement that Febreze is "safe" assumes that it is
being used with normal due care by pet owners; nearly any product can
be dangerous when misused. (Lemon furniture polish is perfectly safe if
it's used to polish furniture, but not if it's used to make lemonade.)
In this case, "due care" means not spraying it directly on pets, and
removing birds from the room during its application.'
