She has never really been mean before. i saw somewhere that some peoples cats
are mean when they are not in heat and nice when they are. that makes me
nervous....she just had kittens about 7 weeks ago, and so she is due to go
into heat again. i am hoping she has been acting insane because she IS in
heat, not because she can be.
also, it may be because she is jealous that i pay attention to the kittens
too now, right? i am just scared because she is getting spayed tomorrow and i
don't want her to be mean forever....it's very unattractive, and frankly, it
really hurts my feelings! (don't think i am silly for thinking that...she is
like my daughter....i rescued her, and i sat with her while she was fat and
pregnant, and i have taken care of her, she had worms when i found her and
she was dirty and malnutritioned....)
anyway, i am just hoping this mean attitude isn't permanant....let me know
what you think.

Might be parasites. She's feeling out of it. Try the physical stuff
first. Worms and so forth, especially if she gets out at all. She might
be sick. She might be over-protective.

My guess would be she's mean because she's in heat again.
Aggressive may be the better term because I'm sure she doesn't mean
to be mean. Many good thoughts for her to come through her surgery
tomorrow and bless you for getting her spayed! What's going to
happen with her kittens? Do you have any leads on homes, or are you
keeping them? How many did she have?

She could be in heat again, but I noticed our cat getting very aloof
when the kittens were about that same age. They still wanted to nurse
but they had teeth and claws, and she tried to spend a lot of time away
from them.
Your cat's body is going through some big hormonal changes. If the vet
gives her a clean bill of health, then I wouldn't worry about it at all
right now. Give her a few months, and I'll bet she's right back to being
your friend.
Our momma cat from last year is now a love-bucket.

She certainlly *could* be in heat already. The spay will not "make" her
mean. She may also just get easily over stimulated. What do you mean by "she
is mean".

I'm guessing her post-pregnancy hormones are just out of whack. I
fostered two mother cats, each with one kitten once. They would wack
out for no reason, beat each other up, smack each other's kittens,
smack their own kitten. Even though normally, they got along
wonderfully. I never fostered another pregnant cat after the experience
with the two Unwed Mothers from Hell.

What they said. Are you going to keep any of the kittens?

Make sure she has a place to go to get away from the little monsters, er...
kittens. She should have something cool to lay on - while her milk is drying
up, she might be kind of cranky because of that, and a cool surface may help
cool down her temper, too. :) We get lots of momcats in that are grumpy
about their kittens but absolutely fine on their own.

She's probably stressed from kitten birth and mothering. She's also still
in the protective stage where she's constantly worried about her kits- which
could make her a little anxious. If she wasn't mean before giving birth,
she'll probably return to normal as her kits get a little older.
Spayed females are generally more playful and friendlier than intact females
and they generally get along better with other cats. My guess is she'll have
a more pleasant disposition after she's spayed and her kittens get a little
older.
Don't separate her from her kits until they're at least 10-12 weeks and try
to handle the kits as much as possible. This will make the kits more
sociable with other cats and humans later in life.
