As of last Friday, Carey has been on an increased amount of Cosequin
and the addition of Cyproheptadine and have stopped the Prozac.  I
have a call into the vet about the Prozac though.

Urination - nothing except in the box!  YEA!

Aggression towards other animals - daily and no trigger or
provocation.  She spends much of the day cuddled with one of the 3 (1
cat 2 dogs) and the other part attacking them.

Skipjack is twice her size and won't fight back except minimal
defense.  He tries to run away from her, but she tackles him and is
taking chunks of hair out of him.  It's totally random.  The 2 times
she's been relentless, I've picked her up and put her in a room and
closed the door.  Once for about 30 minutes, but last night, at 12:30,
I put her in there and went back to sleep - she got out in the
morning.

Other times, they're sleeping together, doing mutual grooming, etc.
Same with the dogs.  When she attacks the dogs, it's usually when
they're active, which means near me generally, so I stop her, but they
have amazing patience with her.

I haven't found "prozac withdrawal" info, but does anyone have
experience with that?  She's back to her yowling too..... but of
course, she always wants to eat because of the Periactin!

You can't stop the prozac cold turkey.  You have to ween your cat off of it
slowly.  Start off giving one half the normal dosage every day for about 10
days to 2 weeks, then give the half dosage every other day for about the
same time period.

thanks - i was only told "you can stop it".  It's going back tonight,
regular dosage for now.  I have enough trouble cutting the damn thing
in quarters and now I have to try 1/8's and 1/16's?    ACK!  Does it
come in a baby dose or liquid? ;-D

Poor Skip is not happy with being attacked.  The dogs just shrug it
off.

I get my cat's prozac compounded into a soft flavored chew.  My cat still
doesn't like it that much, but because it is soft, it is very easy to cut
and then I roll it into a ball and just pop it down my cat's throat.  The
same place I get the flavored chew also compounds meds into flavored
liquids.  VETRXRX.com

Carey loves taking pills (told you she was weird), but the cutting is
a challenge!  Will ask abut compounding.  Just got a new bottle of
pills :-(

I got a very nice little pill cutter from the pharmacist. Very thin blade
and looks something like the back end of a clothes pin.

I need a picture!  I have a few different ones - rubber to hold the
pill, non rubber to hold but not to tight, disc with a middle blade.
These prozac pills are tiny!

So are my lasix pills and I am supposed to cut them into fourths!! My mom
sent it to me.It is what she uses and it works really well.

$3.50!  That looks like something every cat slave should have. It
would have come in handy cutting up Pepcid a couple years ago!

I think I bought something that looked very similar at CVS.  It works pretty
good on a pepcid pill.  But over time I think the blade dulls a bit and it
splinters the pill a little.

have a few versions of this, but the tiny and oblong (and thinly
coated?) prozac just crumbles a bit when cutting in 1/4's.

i still have a bit of crumblage, but it works way better than the old one I
got that was box shaped and had a thicker blade. You should try it. Though
the oblong shape would make it tough. Maybe you should try compounding.

Albertsons carries them at the drug department.

This is similar to the dose schedule I was given to try to wean
Shamrock off of Clomicalm. I thought I'd give it a try to cut back
his dosage because his behavior seemed "modified". After just over a
week on a smaller dose of .5 ml (he's been getting .7 ml per day of a
compounded formula- not sure of the actual mg dose) his behavior
started up again and he was just not happy. Had to go back up to the
.7. His behavior wasn't modified; he was just drugged. :(

Excellent news.  She should be weaned off the Prozac but if you have
gone 3 days or more, it is probably too late.

Keep us posted!

Put her back on the Prozac last night.  No middle of the night attacks
(just sucking on poor Franklin, who got up and went somewhere else to
sleep).  She seems a whole lot more normal today.
