Hi all
With two completely mad furballs we have developed a fairly tolerant
response to occasional incidents when furniture gets clawed but we have
a problem....
Sarrasine has developed almost a fetish for clawing at the speaker
cover on the left hand speaker. She knows she's not to do it and she
even seems to want us to see her do it but she still does it. Now the
spray bottle usually works with her but when it comes to this she's
prepared to get wet.
We have several reasons to want to put her off this. Firstly it's a big
heavy speaker and she's managed to pull it down a couple of times, so
far she's managed to get out of the way but we worry that if she had
her claw stuck in it so she couldn't get out of the way she could get
hurt. Also it would be expensive to replace the speaker.
Anyway I want to try one of those sprays that make something smell less
than attractive to delicate feline nostrils to try and make her stay
away from it.
Has anyone in the UK used these or know of any brands? Any
recommendations or suggestions welcomed
Many thanks
Lesley

Try upside down packaging tape. A second or third encounter will
be the last.
No muss, no fuss, no hands. It makes a serious impression, please
use it conservatively.

How do I get it to stay on the speaker?

It isn't supposed to stay on the speaker, it is supposed to attach
itself to your cat.
You put it at the base of the speaker, wherever your cat is while it is
clawing your speaker.

*sigh* you are such an idiot. OP, get double sided tape and put it on the
spot on the speaker where the cat scratches. The cat will not find it
appealing to scratch and eventually leave it alone.

I would try double sided tape for a period of time and I bet you could take
it off in a few months.

I have used one and it works, but I can't remember the name. You have
to remember to reapply it every couple of weeks though or it wears off.
Try your local pet shop (I know I hate them too but I think they might
sell it) - if I remember the name I'll get back to you. In the
meantime have you got anything minty/citrusy smelling that you can put
on the speaker, I know Otis hates both those smells, worth a try - good
luck.

Actually I use nice pet shop it's a bit further than my local one but
they do not sell any live animals and support the local animal
sanctuaries and advise slaves on things like low cost neuter/spay. The
guy who runs it really knows about cats and gives excellent advice

The one near me is awful, I only go in there to buy catnip. It stinks
- not sure what of but it's nasty - and they have lots of puppies, too
young to be sold kittens, birds in cages (which I hate) and all manner
of animals for sale. So what does your pet shop sell then just
accessories etc., sounds good.

Yep just food, dog leads, cat litter, flea treatments (the one he
recommended for the Furballs was excellent!) rather lovely scratching
posts etc etc and very reasonably priced. They have a "bargain bin"
with toys in where I got the famous catnip Santa and the Hippo that
started the thread "Hippo wars".
I HATE the idea of selling live animals and am pleased to say that the
lady who had the Furballs mum was considering selling them to petshop
when I stepped in and provided them with a home (Sadly due to a vacancy
created when Isis crossed the bridge and we found ourselves in a
catless home for the 1st time in 16 years- we lasted 2 days before I
offered a home for the current Fabulous Furballs) so they are not
rescue cats but I call them "Pre-rescued cats"

Well it worked....I think....Got a spray from the pet shop, sprayed the
speaker cover (It stained it but as I said to Dave who started moaning
would he rather stained or ruined or worse still on top of an injured
feline?) and waited. Sarrasine came up to the speaker got up on her
hind legs, got ready to rip then stopped dead and walked away with her
tail up and the "I meant to do that look".
Now she's taken to sitting on top of the speaker I think she's trying
to acclimatise her nose to it !!!!!

What's the name of the spray? I'm buying a new sofa and chairs set this
weekend and wouldn't mind trying it.

It's something called "Repel-All" made by a company called Shaws. I
just asked my friendly local pet shop and they recommended it
