Hi.  I recently wrote one of these messages for advice on my kitten urinating
on the floor.  One of my thoughts was that it was a urinary tract infection,
but now i know that it isn't the case.  I tried one of the ideas some one
wrote about laying plastic down and my kitten a female who is spayed is still
urinating on top of the plastic in that area.  I have tried litter boxes,
water sprayed on her face, those sprays to not make her want to go there and
nothing has worked.  I can't confine her to one single room because i am gone
at work for so long and i keep her in the bathroom.  The vets i have called
have no idea how to fix this and I am very frustrated because i don't want to
get rid of her but i can't go on like this.  It needs to stop.  If anyone has
help for me on this behavioral issue, please PLEASE let me know!!  Thanks for
any and all help!

Since she prefers the plastic did you try lining a litter box with plastic
and seeing if she will go in it that way.

Hi Aryn,

Sometimes it just takes time to find the thing that works. I know you
are frustrated, but you have to stay calm and just believe that it make
take some time -- but you will find the right mix. You have to be a
trouble-shooter. Think of this as a challenge!

You mentioned that she was already spayed, but did this all happen after
the spay? Sounds like she was spayed within the last few weeks. We had a
3 month old kitten spayed too, and she was so sore. It seemed like it
was harder on her than on our 6 month olds. I'm wondering if your cat is
still recuperating, and maybe it even hurts to climb into the litter
box. Or maybe it hurt right after the spay, and she associates that with
the box. It's hard to know what goes on through their heads. You might
want to try another litter box as a fresh start for one idea -- maybe
with lower sides.

You do need to thorough clean wherever she has peed, because they have
such keen noses that will keep them going back to the same place. I
think the expensive enzyme cleaners work better than the kind that just
try to over up the scent. You might also want to rent a carpet-cleaning
machine and just do the whole floor in that room.

If you can't block the kitten from getting to that room for awhile, can
you completely cover that area? Do you have any big cardboard boxes,
shelves, cabinets, anything that you can move over and cover up the
entire area that she pees? If you can get her away from there and back
into the habit of using the box, you can slowly start uncovering that
area and see how she does.

Good luck to you and let us know how she's doing.

Try putting her food in that area.

Did the vet confirm that she doesn't have any urinary health
problems?
I would read this article to give you some idea of why cats don't use
their litter tray.
http://www.apbc.org.uk/article10.htm
I  would not spray her with water , punishment  won't help. She is
only a baby and you want to build up a relationship in which she can
trust you and not be wary of you. If you see she is going to wee ,
then gently place her in the litter tray and tell her she is a good
girl in a pleasant tone.
It's hard to get the big picture;  to add anything to the advice you
have already had  it would help if you  could answer some questions.
Can you describe your accommodation,  , is it all open plan ?
Where did you originally place the litter tray  and where is the
place she started peeing on the floor?
Does she poo in her litter box?
She's confined in the bathroom while you are at work ? Does she use
the tray when in there?
Is it a litter maid ?  Sometimes these put kitties off.
Did  you use a strong smelling disinfectant or cleaner to clean the
tray? That can put cats of using the tray.
She might not feel or felt safe using the litter tray if other
people or pets were around .

She could have started avoiding her box and using another place for
several reasons , (some have already been said ) such as  pain from
spaying , the litter box was dirty , it was too clean (sometimes with
kittens they need a  reminder of where to go and a little bit of their
wee left in  the box will remind them.)n she prefers the surface of
the carpet or lino to the litter.
She was only about 7 weeks when you first brought her home , house
training can  take  time to be conditioned in a young animal as it
would with a young child and their bladders are still immature. Maybe
she had to go or she was excited and forgot any training she had had
and went in the nearest  convenient place, and is now attracted back
to that spot.
