Erratic Behavior

Hi all,

We have two relatively new cats, a 9 month old kitten and his onl
slightly older mother.  Both are egyptians.  The kitten is exhibitin
some erratic behavior, which we're not particularly worried about righ
now (he is a kitten after all), but which seems to be more and mor
common each day - that's what is concerning us.

So here's what he's doing:
Several times a day he will abruptly stop what he's doing (cleaning
playing, even eating), his eyes will get wide, his pupils will dialate
his ears will flatten down and go back, his tail will fluff up, and h
will generally behave 'scared', dart his eyes back and forth a
nothingness (almost like he is watching something dart around), the
jump up and run around the house jumping at and away from things whic
aren't even there.  Usually he eventually runs and hides beneat
something and acts very frightened for a few minutes.  THis probabl
happens 4-5 times a day now.

So this has been happening more and more as he gets older, so we're
little worried that he may have something wrong with him.  He has als
been chewing things a lot lately and has had a voracious appatite, bu
I'm not sure that's related.  He is otherwise very friendly, happy, an
healthy.  We play with him a lot, cuddle him often, and he has tons o
toys and his mother as a playmate/companion to occupy him when we'r
off at work.

I think we're only concerned because a relative of mine had a cat wit
some mental issues - anxiety and maybe even a sort of schizophrenia -
forget.

Do we have anything to be concerned about?  Thanks for the help!

Call out a priest for an exorcism.   LOL  You've got ghosts.

Exorcisms are not performed on ghosts

If he has been checked out by a vet and deemed healthy, I wouldn't worry
about it - it sounds like the "kitten crazies", typical kitten behavior.
But if he hasn't been seen by a vet lately it would be a good idea to have
him examined and let the vet know what's going on.  Very few kittens have
"mental issues" that aren't related to a physical problem unless they've
been abused.

Hugs,

It sounds pretty much like Kitten crazies, but keep an eye out and if you
notice any other behaviours with it you might ask your vet, but really, it
mostly sounds like kitten behavior.
