I think with one that young and small, your best bet is to use a
flea comb and keep dipping it (comb) in soapy water to drown the
fleas. I would think it would depend on the health of the little
one whether something like Frontline or Advantage is safe, as 5 wks
is borderline for safety. If the kitten is infested with fleas,
you're also going to have to worry about a tapeworm problem. Plus,
little kittens (especially if they are sickly or weak) are prone to
anemia from flea infestation.  I'd have a vet check him/her out.

A friend of mine had two kittens, about 6 weeks ago with fleas, I helped her
get rid of them, we filled a bowl with warm water and polmolive dish liquid
then soaked a soft comb in it and combed over the kittens bodies.  I was
able to remove many by hand and dropped them in the water.  They were too
young for any of the flea products.  we did this twice a day, plus washed
the bed etc, after about the 5th day there were none to be found.  We didn't
treat the mother with a flea product as she was nursing, instead we ran the
comb through her fur as well.   I wih you the best of luck with getting rid
of them.

Advantage is one of the safest of the effective products. According to
the manufacturert it can be applied to kittens as young as 8 weeks, but
that's .4 ml. That's way too much in my opinion. I apply it at a much
lower strength. The minimum effective dosage is about .05 ml per pound of
body weight. I will put a single drop on my finger and rub it into the
back of the neck of a 4-week kitten. If I have the nursing mother though,
I will just treat her and comb the kittens.

Advantage ... imidacloprid

9 lbs or LESS 0.4 ml tube
10 lbs & Up 0.8 ml tube
