Kittycat gift shop in my house

Who else has one?  Every birthday, every Christmas, I get several more
kitty knickknacks, kitty attire, kitty pictures, kitty wallhangings,
kitty candles, kitty cups, kitty plates, kitty paraphernalia.  As my
birthday approaches or at Christmas when a couple of my friends and my
mom send packages, Tony remarks, "Oh, good, more cat stuff."

I literally have hundreds of kitty items.  My house looks like a
cat-themed gift shop.  Most of them are really nice and I like them all
but it's harder and harder to find places to place or hang things.  The
odd thing is I never get duplicates and I have another friend who also
has a kitty-themed house and she has all different stuff than I do.
It's quite a market.

And dog stuff is just not nearly as plentiful.  I have a couple of
dog-loving friends who give me cat stuff so I try to find them dog
stuff.  The dog market is not nearly as cute, plentiful, or diverse as
the cat market.

I love kitties but I'm not sure this is the decor I would have
chosen...

I'm just trying to start a thread that isn't about Conan.  I don't want
to sell it; I like the stuff...I just wouldn't have bought it myself.

Me too, Candace. I have in my cat purse right now, a beaded cat change
purse, and a cat hairbrush. I have a cat vest and a cat jacket,
numerous cat t-shirts. Cat artwork on the walls. Knick-knacks too
numerous to mention. An antique cat stringholder. A large outdoor cat
planter. Cat pajamas and cat house slippers. All gifts. About the only
thing I've bought myself is a bronze statue of Bast. Here's a pic of
Frank doing his statue imitation. (note the cat Beanie baby on the
table. I *really* dislike Beanie Babies!)

He's such a handsome boy!

I forgot I have a cat change purse, too, and, of course, tons of cat
notecards, cat pins.  I have a cast iron cat doorstop that one of my
friends gave me that used to be her parents'.  She was leaving the
country after her dad died and couldn't take all this stuff with her.
It's marked 1927 on the back and "Greenblatt Studios, Boston."  I did a
little research and it seems to be worth about $200.

I love that picture, Beaniebaby and all.   For years, I got cat books at
Christmas, Mothers' Day and my birthday.  I have tried to give some away,
but I still have too many  MLB

Oh yeah. I forgot about the cat books. I think the prize goes to the
person who bought me a CD of those cats meowing Christmas carols. Not
just one song, a whole CD. It was enough to drive you crazy.
But, I do have one little gee-gaw I've had since my grandmother gave it
to me when I wasn't much older than 5. It's half of a cat salt&pepper
set. Just a little old-fashioned cat about 2" tall. I would *love* to
be able to find the other one. I look on e-bay all the time. Maybe I
should post a photo here--somebody here probably has one!!

Yes, you should!

Hey, that's "Jingle Cats" you're talking about.  I have it, too.  We
play it once every Christmas for the cats...if we can get all the way
through it.  They don't seem overly impressed with it, just the
ears-pinned-back look.

Me neither -- and the cats have had my underwear on any number

Same here.  Not just figurines, but scarves, socks, brooches, dish towels
and oven mitts, ring holders, picture frames, etc.  And not only do I get
them as gifts, I inherited some from a friend who passed away, and I buy
them for myself.  I can't get enough - except when it's time to dust them
all!  ;>

I must be shopping in the wrong stores because I rarely see good quality cat
trinklets.  Although, after reading posts about ceramic water bowls, I
chucked all their old water and food bowls and bought all new ceramic ones.
Thanks to everyone for posting your comments about the benefits of these
bowls.  They are great, much easier to clean and the cats seem to prefer
them, well the dog just thinks ok new bowl alright now fill it woman!

The ones I got are so cute they have pawprints all over them and inside at
the base is a picture of a kitty or puppy.  Ok so that doesn't matter to the
critters but it matters greatly to me hehe.

I once bought these gold angel hearts with a cat and dog prayer etched on
the back and a stretch collar for them each to wear.  Big mistake, the
stretch collar hooked on something one night and luckily I was there to see
it as my cat tried to free itself.  I still have the angel hearts but the
collars have all been tossed.  My first lesson in not all things made for
cats are really for cats.

This is especially true of cat toys.  There are no "oversight" committees
for cat toys as there are for baby/toddler/children's toys.  You have to
examine a cat toy closely to make sure there are no "button" eyes that can
be chewed off and choked on; strings that can be ingested and wrap
themselves in a cat's intestines causing death, etc.

Oh, yeah, I forgot all the kitchen accessories...pot holders, trivets,
towels, and mitts.

And dusting, what's that?

I do too! Friends buy me cat related things; my office at work is
even decorated in "modern cat". Cat calendars, cat figurines
(including the Barbie pet collection of bobblehead cats), Boydes
stuffed cat collection in my living room (beautiful stuffed animals
they are! - http://tinyurl.com/cka2w) and even a cat shaped planter
outside in my front yard with a petunia in it. Hell, with all the
cat-related nicknacks, the cat tree in the living room seems
purrfectly natural. :)

I couldn't find a link to them on barbie.com, so maybe they don't
sell them anymore. My set came with three show cats, complete with
trophy, certificate, brush and comb. Yup, silly, but cute!

While looking for the Barbie pets, I came across this:

That's kinda cute, I suppose it could be a good thing for a little
girl.

I don't have a huge collection (except for way too much Hello Kitty stuff)
but my family has been giving me stuff steadily for the last 6-7 years.  My
mother has given me the most, and she's not really a cat person.  I have
bought a few things for myself, and some of them can be seen here:
http://www.tyberkatz.com/katz02.html
I have three of the cats on that page.  When I bought them, they did NOT
cost $1599.00 each!  I have two others that are no longer shown on the
website.  When I bought mine, they offered a payment plan.  I would send
them a check each month for 10% and several months after my last payment I
received the cat.  It's too bad they now seem to be mainly into
mass-produced stoneware items.

The pictures on the site don't even begin to show the detail.  I can't
imaging how many hours/days/months of work go into each one.  They're all
individually made by a husband & wife team.  From each individual whisker to
the amazing clothes they're dressed in, every detail is perfect.  My mother
(did I say she's not a cat person?) almost begged me to let her keep one.  I
feel guilty that I didn't let her have one, but she's not a cat person!
