I'll bet that cat is sitting in a kennel somewhere while they decide who is worthy of him, not that any of them want him personally.

Ah, gad. Do you really think so? I thought at the very least he would be at Dan's house. That is upsetting. WE could have put him in a kennel-- in fact that was the plan, and why I felt better that Monica and others got him.
Charlie Wilkes - 02 Jul 2005 08:18 GMT >> >??? >> [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] >in fact that was the plan, and why I felt better that Monica and others >got him. Obviously I'm speculating. These people haven't given me the benefit of the doubt, so why should I give them the benefit of the doubt? Conan may be lounging about in his "forever home," deciding which of 100 new cat toys to play with. But somehow, I doubt it.

PawsForThought - 02 Jul 2005 16:04 GMT > > >??? > > [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] > in fact that was the plan, and why I felt better that Monica and others > got him. Mary, for what it's worth, I honestly do not believe for a second that Conan is somewhere sitting in a kennel. I believe Conan is either being fostered until his forever home is found, or he is already in that home.
Lauren
Mary - 02 Jul 2005 17:25 GMT > > > >??? > > > [quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > being fostered until his forever home is found, or he is already in > that home. What makes you think that, Lauren? I hope you're right. Dan will not answer my questions via email, and yesterday posted in rpca that he has not only a kitten but a "2-year-old neutered male" to place. Which suggests that Conan is indeed in a kennel, when he could be in the home of the nice guy in San Diego by now. If the reality were good, why would he and Monica be so secretive about it? If it were good, I think we would be hearing about it.
Charlie Wilkes - 02 Jul 2005 20:05 GMT >> > > >??? >> > > [quoted text clipped - 23 lines] >reality were good, why would he and Monica be so secretive about >it? If it were good, I think we would be hearing about it. You could have lined up half a dozen people who wanted the cat, but none of them would be good enough. Monica & co. are on a power trip. The person who gets Conan must be their choice -- someone they find and approve on their own.
I have observed various forms of this two-bit crapola all my life, especially in volunteer organizations where no one has any real authority. The sneaky wheel gets the grease.
That is why I was so quick to defer to anyone else who might want the cat. I don't want to be a player in such a game. I would rather observe and share my observations, unwelcome though they might be.

It is still the cat that I am worried about-- and until I see some sign that he is out of a cage and in a loving home I will not be able to stop worrying.

[quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > I'm not quite ready to vouch that he is a sneaky-assed liar but I am > very suspicious. I have read about him and his cat Harriet in the same group Annie knows him from for years. What is particularly damning is that he simply will not answer my emails at all, though the night before he went to get Conan he was all encouragement and sunshine and light. (You got the group emails.) He felt fine about you getting Conan at that time, too, he said so in this group and also in private email. But after that mail he sent us about allegedly being stuck in traffic with his cell phone off, I cannot get a word out of him. So--somebody convinced him that you are a bad guy and that the only way to protect Conan was to keep me out of the picture, along with Rhonda--and perhaps TraceyRose--who has also been suspiciously quiet these days! :) It will be funny once I know this cat is out of a cage and in a home.
All Dan has to do is address these questions to clear things up. I gave him the opportunity to do so privately, but he apparently declined. He could have avoided lying by just emailing the group and saying, "Look, someone contacted me and I changed my mind. I don't want Conan to go to Charlie, so I am going to get him and work with them to find him a home." I really thought Dan was man enough to do that, but I guess not. The sad thing is, since both you and I and everyone else agreed that a local adoption would be better, Dan lied for nothing. Conan was not going to you any way.

Nope, no double-cross here, As you know, I always thought not flying the cat was better than flying the cat, and thus would have prioritized the San Diego adopter over those in Seattle. My major reaction to the whole thing was disgust at the wasted, duplicative effort. Still is.

Dan and Monica do. They come with all these glowing references because they say just the right things on Usenet.

Anyway, I've been advised not to talk about this any more and I think that is good advice.

If you had wanted to get the cat and become a short-term foster, than nothing was stopping you. The fact that you were the one who put the cat there pretty much makes it a ridiculous thing to suggest that you would've gotten him if you had gotten the money wired. What is so difficult to comprehend about that simple premise that I have to rehash it over and over for you?
And, the cat is out of the shelter, there is no mess any longer. Once again we come back to the point of you not needing to be involved.
If you want to play the point of using the money just to prove Mary was a "manipulating witch", then it can only follow that your motivation in challenging her was not to get involved in helping the cat, but only to prove your own point and gain some self-perceived upper hand. That being the case, why should she have trusted you to get the cat at all if she had wired you the money, with the clock ticking down? It was pretty clear at the time you made the initial post that your interest in challenging her to send money to you was not motivated by your desire to help get the cat out of the predicament you placed him in. Your posts here just cement things firmly beyond any conjecture at all.

In your generation, loose lips has something to do with oral sex. My generation??? so you know me well do you, pray tell what is my generation? I could be 20 , I could be 70, you have no knowledge of which... now , you wouldn't be doing what you are accusing everyone else of and making an assumption now would you... ah not you, you're too busy try to blame others for the mess you created. As for my rescue efforts, unfortunately I have neither the means nor the talent to arrange a rescue the way Mary and the others did, so instead I offered what I was in a position to offer and that was monetary support. This was certainly better than turning my back and hindering their efforts.
I congratulate Mary, Rhonda and Tracey Rose, et. al. on all their planning, unfortunately it seems a game of oneupmanship is being played and you're not helping matters any with your little taunts. "I know a secret, I know a secret, please some ask me once again what it is before i wet myself" ohhh this is so much fun. Most outgrow this by grade one.
I could honestly care less what you think of me, I am extremely confident in myself and my abilities, probably to the point of being vain about it. I have one regret in life though, that I'm not the person working in the pension office in your area whose responsible for signing your cheque. Because if I was, I know a few shelters that would get a nice bonus next month.

In your generation, loose lips has something to do with oral sex. Ahhh, yes, but you certainly weren't part of the "Greatest Generation". You were part of the Big Disappointment that followed. The generation that brought sexual promiscuousness and rampant drug abuse into the norm.
Philip - 04 Jul 2005 04:51 GMT >>>>>>>>>>> ??? >>>>>>>>>> [quoted text clipped - 60 lines] > that brought sexual promiscuousness and rampant drug abuse into the > norm. Never thought of 'us' as the Greatest Generation. But certainly born too early to be part of the '60's generation since I was born in '35 and did not participate in political matter of that decade. But I agree with you that those who were seduced by the flower child, free love, drugs/sex/rock n roll, anti-establishment crap were the beginning of the end for America. Sadly, too many of those ponytailed liberals got into the government.

Actually, I'd put the beginning of the end for America on the Beatnik Generation -- those in their 20's in the 1950's. The ones who gave birth to the rampant drug abuse and sexual promiscuity that reached their fruition in the 60's.

It is an extravagent heirloom. My efforts are only enough to produce a middle-class income. I mention it because deficiencies in house size, window capacity and financial resources seem to be the reasons Monica has rejected two applicants who wish to adopt Conan. As a third rejected suitor, I think it is fair for me to point out that I have these things.

One of the pictures circulated shows Conan on the top of a large recliner chair. He liked the morning sun there. This is a large cat and Conan is one to sprawl out and roll around.
