why not get the cat docile, and get a small pair of scissors and see if you can give it a little attention. If your steady handed, maybe you can ever so lightly coax the object loose from his hair.
The green may be infection, you see blood?, If the cat is real tender about it...it is probably infected. If you can wipe it for now, it sounds like it needs to be disinfected with something topical.
Try to put a little peroxide around it BUT ONLY, if you are sure, there is not a lot of raw flesh underneath it. I'd try to get it off first. Then you know what your working with.
This is not something you want to let go or hope it fixes itself, infection is a MUTHA!

I'd get the tweezers and pull it out, flush it with peroxide and put a little neosporin on it. The kind without additives for pain. If it was so deep I was unable to get it out cleanly with tweezers, I'd take him to the vet. Good luck! Sherry

It sounds very much like a foxtail seed which you should *not* attempt to remove as it has barbed hooks and will move inward. It can be extremely painful and dangerous as the seed moves into the cat's body. Here is a link: http://www.governoranimalclinic.com/798625.html . Please, do not delay and have him seen on an emergency basis.

Is he neutered? Does he have shots?
Good luck.
Rhonda - 29 Jun 2005 06:13 GMT I would get him into a vet and get it removed. My first thought was a tick, but I don't know if they come in green!
If there's blood, then it's through his skin and could be creating a problem -- an infection for one.
Is there a vet you can get to pretty quickly?

Do not try to remove it! Foxtails have barbs facing backwards- similar to fish hooks. If you try to pull it out, you'll drive the barbs deeper into the skin. It must be removed by a vet *ASAP*.

Claire W - 29 Jun 2005 18:14 GMT It doesn't look like that, it looks like a little helicopter seed. I can't get it out and my friend told me to leave it alone. It's still there today, and I'm getting woried. He doesn't mind it, and it doesn't seem to hurt him. It's not mangled in the fur, as I can move all the fur out of the way and it's still there.

Take the cat to Ted before it becomes infected.
biggerbadderbarry - 29 Jun 2005 18:32 GMT > It doesn't look like that, it looks like a little helicopter seed. I can't > get it out and my friend told me to leave it alone. You basically just told everyone, that you spend no time with your cat.
You haven't petted him long enough to even know that the thing was on him.
I would know if something like that was on my cats neck.
Damn cat is probably walking around hard as brick, stressed, unpetted, and now your tampering with one sore spot! acting like a novice.
get a pair of scissors, get a razor blade, cut the hair away from it.
*** WARNING *** Don't use sharp object on the cat if you dont' know what your doing. If you can pluck and eyebrow, you can cut a helicopter out.
Do what Sherri Said.
Claire W - 29 Jun 2005 18:45 GMT >You basically just told everyone, that you spend no time with your cat. If I spend no time with my cat, why would I have rescued him? I wouldn't even have noticed it was there! I love my cat and just this morning I was petting him and he watched me swim. He's upstairs sleeping on my bed right now and I'm just worried that it's hurting him (even though he doesn't show it ).
biggerbadderbarry - 29 Jun 2005 19:27 GMT You need to get your butt out of the pool and resolve the problem with the cat.

Do you have a digital camera so you could take a picture of this and post it on alt.binaries.pictures.animals if nowhere else? Maybe if people could see what your talking about they could give you a better idea of what it is

Claire,
You are right to be worried. What is the problem with taking your cat to the vet? Even if it doesn't look like a foxtail seed to you, it is a foreign body embedded in the skin which might cause infection. It may become abscessed and you'll have more issues on your hands, to say nothing of the potential danger this still poses. A vet can identify and remove this if done soon enough. It is beyond the time for you to wait and see. Please take your cat to his vet.
Good luck,
M.
Claire W - 29 Jun 2005 19:07 GMT OK, I'm off to call the vet and make an appointment.
