Conan is Safe and Out of the Shelter

cmtowle - 28 Jun 2005 21:36 GMT To all,
I have been asked by our group to post the information below and I am delighted to be able to provide a positive update. Please note that the three of us are equally involved in Conan's adoption efforts and I just happen to be the one to post.
Because of the time factor, we decided last night to get Conan out of the shelter and he is now in a caring and safe environment. We are working very hard on finding him a permanent home and hope to avoid any potential stress of an extensive transport. He is a beautiful, healthy boy who has already shown that he has a penchant for climbing into laps, cuddle, and knead (in that order) every chance he gets.
Thank you Mary for your offer to pay for his adoption. As three of us are now actively working on the situation as it stands, we felt as a group that accepting your money would not be appropriate under the circumstances and it has been returned to you.
We will update the group as things unfold, but we do not wish to engage in lengthy threads or e-mails about this. We want to focus on Conan's well-being and best interests.
However, serious leads on a permanent home are very much welcomed and will be followed up.
Conan thanks all of you who were and remain interested in his rescue - without this newsgroup he would have remained another anonymous kitty languishing in a shelter waiting for a home.
Thank you,
M.

I'm so glad you got him!! Dan got there right after you did. There is a man in San Diego, a very nice fellow who is interested in him. Shall I forward his email to you? His 18-year-old cat died recently after he nursed it through CRF.
Also, please post a link to PayPal so that people can donate toward transporting him, his upkeep, his adoption fee, to reimburse you.
God Bless you! Take some photos!!!! This is a reason for all to rejoice!
CatNipped - 28 Jun 2005 21:52 GMT > To all, > [quoted text clipped - 29 lines] > > M. Ah, I didn't know you guys were going to do this, I thought Mary and Dan, going "underground" had accomplished their mission. Anyway, the important thing is that Conan is safe and will have a loving home, so THANK YOU!!!
Hugs,
CatNipped
Alison - 28 Jun 2005 21:54 GMT Well done ! I'm so relieved that Conan is safe. I'm sure people would like to contribute to a paypal account to cover expenses. Any money left over could go to a shelter to help other cats who are not so lucky. Alison

Thank you for doing this, we are all very happy, and I am sure there are many of us who would like to make a donation to your fund.

Hey, I saved a life! Send me some donations
You stumbled in and bumped your head if not for me then you'd be dead I picked you up and put you back on solid ground
This makes no sense I know...but it's got emotion
But I like you, because you stood up to me, it's a dam shame our worlds will never collide.
I guess Im just happy for Conan, this, and probably just another cheap ploy on my part to get some more attention.

If funds are being collected to help defray costs count me in for a donation.

cmtowle - 29 Jun 2005 02:38 GMT Hi all,
Thank you all of you for your kind words, enthusiastic responses, and for your offer of donations. For now, we are fine and would be really happy if all of the energy as well as finances that went into and would have gone into rescuing Conan would be directed in whatever way possible to local shelters, rescue organizations, etc. The heart-break of these "rescue missions" is always that there are so very many needing help (as Cheryl, barry, Helen, and others have pointed out in other threads), each and every single one as worthy as the other of being rescued and adopted. The sad reality is that the lucky ones get our attention, most do not. However, making a commitment of saving even one animal, when we can, does make a difference.
Mary, thanks for the adopter possibility - he is going to contact us and we will go from there. As to those who are cynical about this rescue effort, I can only hope that it wasn't directed at us. I can assure every one of you that this had and has nothing to do with control, ego, etc., but with rescuing from possible euthanasia and adopting out to a great home only one of a myriad of cats that happened to come into focus in this group. One we knew we could do something about. We are well aware that it is a droplet in the ocean while others continue to suffer, but to Conan it made a difference and for now that has to be enough.
Thank you again,
M.
Candace - 29 Jun 2005 02:46 GMT >The heart-break of these "rescue > missions" is always that there are so very many needing help (as Cheryl, [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > making a commitment of saving even one animal, when we can, does make a > difference. I think someone who posts here might use this as their sig line but I've always liked it:
"Saving one animal won't change the world, but it will surely change the world for that animal."
And, of course, every kitty is special and deserves a wonderful life. There's just no rhyme or reason why some are chosen and some are not. I will donate the money I was going to donate to Conan to one of our rescue groups...tonight.

Like the bank commercial -- if we could only take this one rescue of Conan, and repeat it 100,000,000,000 times.

Face it, EQ. If Philip had not been so arrogant to be honest about this whole thing, the plight of this boy cat would never have been known or affected. It's allllll good.
Philip - 29 Jun 2005 05:12 GMT >> >>The heart-break of these "rescue >> >> missions" is always that there are so very many needing help (as [quoted text clipped - 35 lines] > about this whole thing, the plight of this boy cat would never have been > known or affected. Anyone tripping over the Conan Chronicles and reading the various chapters should realize it is a very risky thing to detail much of anything to you people. You don't handle forthrightness well at all. I for one will never in this forum or any other pet forum relate anything negative until after the situation has resolved itself due to the verbal abuse, judgementalism, vilifications, and distortions that the lowest common denominator here have shown themselves capable.
Mary - 29 Jun 2005 03:03 GMT > Hi all, > [quoted text clipped - 23 lines] > > M. We will leave it in your capable hands, Monica.
Trish Dunphy - 29 Jun 2005 03:31 GMT > Hi all, > [quoted text clipped - 23 lines] > > M. Very nicely said... my donation will go to the Humane Society (to help with food, etc.) in this city, they helped us find a wonderful woman who cremated our cats after they died then provided gorgeous urns for them. I'm sooooooooooo happy Conan is ok, it does give hope.

I modified a little song about it.

I was one of the first people to suggest trying to save Conan. His story just tugged at my heart. I am so glad he has been rescued and I will be making a very nice donation to the shelter near me that I love and support in Conan's honor.
Good lord, I love cats! :) Thank you, rescuers! Pam
equalizer - 29 Jun 2005 01:46 GMT >To all, <SNIP>
Fantastic job by all of you, cleaning up the mess that Phillip created.
Topsy Turvey - 29 Jun 2005 02:53 GMT Thank goodness we don't have to hear about this cat anymore.
I would pay good money to have a picture of Phillip as a boy...I bet he looked just like Buster Brown.

Please let us know when you're successful in finding Conan a home. Someone is going to be very lucky to have him. Mickey and Meesha are making a donation to the shelter they were adopted from in Conan's honor :)

cmtowle - 29 Jun 2005 07:28 GMT Thanks from us to all who decided to donate to their shelters and for the continuing kind words of support. I do want to emphasize that this was truly a team effort and in no way do I want to leave the impression that I did or could have done this on my own. Each of us is equally involved and will continue to be so until we are satisfied that Conan is settled in a great home. I am sorry that for some this saga seems to be continuing ad nauseam and we will do what we can to minimize the emphasis on this one kitty, so that others will get a better chance of being heard and helped. Any potential adopter info can be sent via e-mail. This will reduce the back and forth here.
Thank you,
M.
Rhonda - 29 Jun 2005 03:13 GMT Yeah, he is safe and sound! What a relief. It felt like the clock was ticking pretty loudly.
Thanks for taking care of him.
I have canceled all flight plans, but let me know if you need anything.
