Conan Shelter Update

Thread rating: |
Mary - 25 Jun 2005 19:32 GMT I just spoke with Suzette at the shelter (after being placed on hold for 17 minutes!), gave her Conan's animal number and description and asked if he was still there. She checked (this is someone without even the social skills to say "hold a moment while I check," by the way) and said "IT is still here." I asked if Katherine was busy and she said "Yes." So all I could do was ask her to give me Katherine's voice mail.
I left Katherine a message letting her know that we think we have found a home for Conan and the means to transport him. And that I need to know what their policy is regarding out-of-town adoptions, if they do them, how we can get an application to Charlie, etc.
When she calls me back I will let you all know.

We could probably pay the shelter boarding fees to hold onto Conan after we pay the adoption fee. Whadya think?

Whadya think? We could! But he is not up for re-evaluation until June 29th--that is Wednesday, and if things move as fast as they have begun to today, Conan might well be in the air by then, safely tucked under Rhonda's seat and on his way to Charlie!!!! Yippee. My heart is full and my eyes are leaking. This just rocks bigtime.

Yippee. My heart is full and my eyes > are leaking. This just rocks bigtime. It's very promising. Thanks to you, Rhonda, Tracy, Dan, and, of course, Charlie!!!!!! I hope it's all smooth. I'm still in for cash. If there's $$ left over after all the critical bills are paid, we could certainly give Charlie the remainder for his gas, expenses, and sort of a "dowry" for Conan.
And I saw where Dan said in another thread that he could just be the one "adopting" Conan and then transfer ownership over to Charlie. My experience is that municipal shelters don't have the same rigorous questioning that no-kills and rescues have. They will probably just be happy to have him adopted and open up a space for another cat. I can't imagine that they are going to follow up and check out Conan's whereabouts at a later date. That might just be the easiest way...let Dan be the adopter.

When I adopted from a SPCA, they never even called to see how the kittens were doing. Ditto the big Thank You to everyone involved!!

It's all incredibly kind and wonderful of you to give Conan a home. I'm sure he'll fit in nicely and you'll all be happy he is there.

Barb - 26 Jun 2005 12:04 GMT Please, I'm getting caught up in this. I'm in for $25 if needed.
-- Barb Of course I don't look busy, I did it right the first time.
Mary - 26 Jun 2005 17:40 GMT > Please, I'm getting caught up in this. I'm in for $25 if needed. Thanks, Barb! That's Kelly for $25, and you for $25! Our buddy "Nomen" has pledged $100 if need be, but many want to share the burden. It's great to see so many big hearts. Times are tough and I know every one has things they need to do with their money.

You know, we need to see what Rhonda can arrange, but if you and "Nomen" do $25, then that adds up to $100 and Rhonda was thinking it might only cost $80-$100 to fly him!
Oh, man! Pretty soon we will see Conan on the Charlie Wilkes Cam!!!

Now if we can just find Tracy Rose and get her to post her PayPal address.
First of course we have to get word from Rhonda that she can get an air pass or book a flight, whichever she has to do. Of course, she eventually will be able to, it is only a matter of "when." Then TracyRose, who is also a travel agent (and a damned good organizer I must say!) will begin collecting money to pay for his ticket.
rtriley@gmail.com - 27 Jun 2005 05:48 GMT OK, I'm new to this topic (and this newsgroup) but I got hooked in rec.aviation.piloting, so here goes.
I'm in Santa Ana, California, and I'm willing to help. I will donate frequent flier miles (United) if that will do anything, and/or I'm in for $25.
I'm also willing to take him for a week or so, if that will make things easier. I have a calico of indeterminate age (a previous tennat abandoned her).
In addition, I work for a Large Aerospace Company that used to be headquartered in Seattle, so I'll see if there's something I really need to fly up to Seattle for soon. If I can find something, I'll take the cat with me.
Please do NOT write to me at the above email, it will never get to me. My address is richard at riley dot net.
I won't take a leadership role in this, but I will do what I can.

Thanks for posting!
That's great that you want to help. Really wonderful.
I will find out about passes for flight costs tomorrow, and will keep your offer of ff miles in mind if it comes to that.
If you do get a trip planned to come up soon, let us know and maybe you'll have a little orange hitch-hiker! :) He will also need a reservation to fly in the cabin, but we can work on that.
Take care,
Rhonda
PS -- Bet I can guess what aerospace company you work for...

If I can find something, I'll take >the cat with me. Thank's Richard. The offer is greatly appreciated. I knew I'd find someone over at R.A.P. that might be able to help out in a pinch. The airline seems to be looking pretty good, right now. I think we'll know tomorrow(Monday). But some FF miles and/or $25 will be quite helpful. And knowing that we may have another option is GREAT!!! I would have offered to fly "Conan" myself, but I'm based way out on the East Coast. What kind of plane do you fly?
>I won't take a leadership role in this, but I will do what I can. We may have a few too many people taking the "leadership role" here, already. :)
Thank's, Again

>You are such a sweetie for posting about Conan there. I hope, since I'm little more than a "bit" player in this event, that I'm not stepping on anybody's toes, here. But I've seen far too many good plans unravel for lack of a contingency plan. I thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone over at R.A.P. might be willing and able to help out. I'd just like to see this little guy get himself a home.
