I just wanted to say thank you so much!
It was at your urging that I ordered my digital baby scale (I actually got a
killer of a deal on a brand new one on eBay for $11 US and $20 US S+H - and
it's as accurate down to the fraction of an ounce as the vet's scale!).
Jessie had been looking lethargic for a few days, but I might have wrote
that off to the heat and drought we're experiencing in Houston right now.
It's hard to keep exact track of what each one eats since I have four and
they pretty much free feed even their canned food (and as I mentioned in
another post, I don't interact with Jessie as much as with our other three
since she's *such* a "daddy's girl").
When I got the scale, about three weeks ago, I weighed each of the girls.
Jessie was 7.5 lbs then (her last vet record had her weight at 7.0 lbs*).
So after two days of her acting lethargic I plopped her on the scale again
and she weighed 7.15 lbs. 3.5 oz in a cat that small is a pretty
significant amount, so it was off to the vet right away. *If the vet had
gone by that recorded weight alone, she would have thought Jessie had
*gained* a half ounce rather than just losing 3.5 oz!
As a result we caught whatever it is soon enough to treat it easily and were
alerted to the weight loss soon enough to get her on the cyproheptadine and
A/D before she suffers any side effects from a greater weight loss.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your advice and let you know that you
saved my little girl from a lot worse illness than what she has!
Hugs,

Great to hear. I got mine because of Maynard. Not quite as accurate as
it is not digital, but it is a baby scale and has marks for the
ounces.
I weigh the others too, every couple weeks to see how they are. I am
doing Jay Jay more since he is losing weight (on purpose). It's nice
to know what is normal, so that we can tell when it isn't.

I'm glad to hear it! This is exactly why I think a good pediatric scale is
the best investment you can make in your cats' healthcare program.
Thanks for the note.
