Well since two days I have given Romeo his Diet Hill Prescription by a small
handfull thinking like someone had syggested that he eats too fast.
Yesterday all went well. This morning put about 15 kibles in hiw bowl. He
ate some, drank some water then walked away and thew everything up, water
and all. I hadn't noticed as I was outside but when I came back in he was
eating what he had just thrown up. Like I said before it's just in and right
out undigested.
Guess this will call for another expensive vet consultation...PLEASE if
anyone suggestes canned food give me a brand name. I tried a can of Canine
SO diet and no can do. Is this a desperate case cause I'm becomming a
desperate housewife.

Have you tried Science Diet canned food? Mine will eat it but don't like
that as much as Fancy Feast (which has recently upgraded the quality, so
it's not like cats' "junk food" any more).

Cats can be extremely particular about brand, and about flavor within
brand. Oscar will only eat, that I've found, Wellness Turkey and
Wellness Salmon and Turkey. Everything else gets left in the food
dish. But that doesn't mean your cat will eat it.

Try a canned diet with a single, novel protein source such as Hill's
Prescription Diet d/d. If the vomiting stops after the diet change, look
for a regular commercial diet with the same protein source.
Good luck,

Is he vomittting just straight food or is it bubbley? Sounds like he is
getting gassy or something, wet food should help. He could have a
stomach problem, like an ulcer. My car did taht but he's fine now and I
put him on Waltham's SO Ph control wet food.

When I said I fed my cat a spoonful at a time I meant canned Wellness with a
little dry Wellness when she had enough canned. After a few months the
problem was over.

Stop feeding him dry food. That is all you have to do.

I'm not sure if your cat needs a special diet or not but my cat was on a
renal diet for nearly a year before she started vomitting suddenly and
almost passing out.
After numerous inconclusive tests and hospitalisations I decided to take her
off the diet and just give her normal food.
She has been absolutely fine since. She still drinks and wees a bit more
than normal so I give her meat in jelly to stop her getting so thirsty.
It was initially thought she was CRF but she is not - however she does only
have one kidney fully functioning - so it's now quality of life over
quantity. She is MUCH happier and behaving like a normal cat - RUNNING about
and playing etc...
I'm convinced that the renal diet helped her initially but then was slowly
killing her.
If all else fails - just feed normal cat food. Forget the expensive diets
and give the cat some happiness. I never realised just how depressed and
unhappy and SCRAWNY my cat was until I stopped the renal diet.

You're really lucky, and I think you are onto something re the special
cat foods, especially since they are usually dry foods. My cat gained
weight on so-called "diet" cat foods. When I put her on canned
exclusively she began losing, and is now about half-way to
her ideal weight.

I am having the same problem with my cat and I am trying to switch him to
wet food (very slowly) and now I am noticing that his stool is getting very
loose. Any suggestion on what to do? I don't want to have to deal with
diareah now also.

What kind of canned food are you feeding him?

I have been giving him Nutro complete care pouches which he absoulutley
loves. I only give him tiny bit in the morning and then again at night.

My cat Gnarly loved canned food but it always gave her the runs. There may
have been a canned food she could eat without getting them, but if there is
I never found it.
I guess the only solution is to give your vet a call, and
depending on what he/she says, keep trying different foods.

I just noticed your title -- "round pants?" Very funny :)
I don't think I'd trust those pouches too much if they are what I'm
thinking. Are they semi-moist chunks in a gravy? I have read somewhere
that they contain more chemicals.
Can you try a canned food?

I had the same problem with my now 9 month old kitten[1]. He's
still a dry food hound, but he eats at least some canned every day.
When I first tried to get him on more canned food than dry, he had
loose stools for what seemed like forever. I just settled on the
formulas of canned food that they (he and his littermate) would
eat, and let nature take its course. His stools firmed up after a
while, and I have to admit I thought they never would. During the
transition I just made sure he had lots of fresh water available.
It took a while, but everything is fine now.
[1] This 9 month old "kitten" is now over 15 pounds. :)

My cat that vomits only does it with dry food. Try small amounts of a
premium canned food.
I noticed you mentioned that he ate dry food then drank water. It could be
that the dry food expands and gives him an upset stomach.

Hi Java,
Whereabouts are you located? Are you in the U.S.? A few brands canned
food that come to mind are Petguard, Wellness or Innova (although
Innova can be kind of rich for some cats). In the meantime, you might
try feeding your cat his kibble on a plate, to where it's spread out
more, so he eats more slowly.
Good luck,
Lauren

I haven't seen your earlier posts, so forgive me if my response is
redundant or otherwise irrelevant. The only time I've had chronic
vomiting with one of my cats is when he had swallowed some rubber. At
one point, as it was passing through his system, he vomited up all food
and water. I was finally able to coax down a little food mixed with
water, one tablespoon at a time. I used Iams lamb and rice wet food.
But, be sure there isn't some none food reason for his vomiting.
Riley's rubber snack didn't show up on X-Rays or ultrasound. We were
scheduled for something else (a barium x-ray? - I forget now) when the
rubber finally finished it's trek through his system and appeared in
his litter box. Not all foreign objects will go through without hurting
the cat, so if you haven't already done so, I'd advise making sure
there isn't something foreign in your cat's system.

Has he had an x-ray? Does he keep anything down, or does it come back
up every time? Could he have eaten something that is blocking his
system and not allowing anything to go down?
