Java - 18 Jun 2005 04:03 GMT Last February we had to put our beloved 5 yr old cat so sleep after over $1600.00 vet bills. He couldn't urinate anymore. I cried for two days passing my rage (not over the money) but over the loss of our cat. In March instead of buying a cat I went to the SPA and adopted another tabby. I really love him and he follows me around like a dog. I ususally go to bed around 10:00 and if I decide to come downstairs on the computer like tonite well he waits at the bottom of the stairs, and when I get up he rushes in front of me to bed. Then when I work I get up at 6:30 and when I am off, little bugger will paw my face lick my hair till I Do get up. Since I have had him, he vomits quite a bit....Took him to the vet, he told me to feed him Diet Hill Prescription I/D and the problem is still there. Got some kind of gel from the pet shop and started to keep updates on the vomiting and noticed that when I give him the gel that's when he barfs. He just eats and it's not even gross to pick up as it is in and out, undigested.
I will have to go for a (bilan de sante) excuse my french, but the whole kit of blood work which is about $280.00. Was just wondering if any of you had that problem.Even tried mineral oil, which seems to help.Right now my Romeo is waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs ans says Thank you anyone.
By the way read about Conan on a soap group. What was that all about. Thanks to you all.

The first, in your case, is that dry expands in the stomach. If he eats too fast or too much, it comes up. Another is that dry food contains a lot of starch, usually corn, and many cats have allergies to corn. I switched my two barfy cats to canned and they rarely throw up now, and the fat one is getting slimmer and the skinny one is sleek and shiny and energetic and happy. :)
By the way, what is this "gel" you mention? If it makes him barf, take him off of it!
Java - 18 Jun 2005 04:31 GMT Have no worry, I threw it away. Thanks Mary Java

Java - 18 Jun 2005 14:29 GMT He was always on prescription Diet though before I/D it was C/D. Eats only that no treats or table scraps. Java

If he is, that would regurgitation which means he might be eating too fast. Regardless, I would definitely recommend getting him on a canned diet. Here's an article you might find interesting: http://www.catinfo.org/zorans_article.pdf
Also, if he is diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome, then I would recommend joining the IBD list on Yahoo: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FelineIBD
Hope this helps, Lauren

Sometimes she will scarf down her kibble too fast and it will come back up. I think this is when it is too long between meals. Good luck. MLB

I used to feed only dry food, and when he ate that, he almost always threw it right back up. When I switched to canned food, it stopped for the most part. I do still feed some dry as one of my cats refuses to eat the dry, so when Loki gets ahold of the dry, it happens. I can see in the throw up that it's still in the kibble shapes, like it went down and right back up. Try a high-quality canned food only diet before doing the bloodwork. Personally, if he seems healthy otherwise, I wouldn't be in a rush to try it.

I was thinking the same thing. Cats just throw up a lot at times-- even perfectly healthy cats.

How are you feeling?

Finally pretty good after the bout with walking pneumonia. Going to head out soon with DH and try to enjoy a lovely weekend together (weather=GORGEOUS) before isolation. Thanks for askin! :)

Barb - 18 Jun 2005 14:56 GMT I got my kitten to stop the throw up that she was doing a lot for a while at around one year old. It was undigested food. I decided she was wolfing down the food too fast so I started feeding her a mouthful at a time. Throw up stopped. After a few months of that I went back to just giving her a regular portion all at once. She had outgrown the throw up. Hasn't thrown up now in months!
-- Barb Of course I don't look busy, I did it right the first time.

This is very true, and I had forgotten that I had to do it with Cheeks when she first got canned!! Good post.
