Surely we can get a collection going if we can just find someone in
the area who can go get Conan.  I'm in Kansas so I can't do it, or I
would.
Maybe Phil should have asked for help with Conan before this turned
into such a mess?  Just a random thought...

Please don't refer to Philip as "Phil"!  I don't want people confusing an
a.shole with a prick.

Again, I'm sorry -- for some reason, killfiling the name "Philip"
seems to have also killfiled you, and I've tried manually editing my
killfilter but it's not helped.  Thanks to this, I'm pretty well out of
the loop, and got you two confused.
FWIW you are neither a.shole nor prick.

Phil is the one helping now; Philip is the one who returned him and he
never asked for help, not then, not now.

Gah!  Sorry for the confusion, I just kind of stepped into the middle
of this a few days ago.  I was wondering why on earth Phil was helping
now, because I thought he was the same person as Philip.
Sorry, Phil.  I meant PHILIP should have asked for help before dumping
Conan off at a shelter.

Read up, Stacia.  I made inquiries here, two vet visits, and one phone
consult with the shelter vet.

Candace ... you are in error.  You need to read the various threads on Conan
and get up to speed.

I now have this dickhead's full name, by the way. I didn't even ask

Pam,

You have my email. Give me the name of the shelter and I will pay one of the
people there to take him home until we can figure out what to do. All I have
to do is call and send a PayPal.

Probably not necessary at this point. Mary...are you serious about
adopting him if we could get Conan to you?

THe shelter is the Orance County ANimal Care Center.
Phone 714-935-6943
Conan's ID # P0710740

I want him terribly but my husband says no more cats. However,
if we cannot find him as good a home I will take him if we can
get him here. John will just have to deal with it. (He is a kind and
loving man but has to be talked into things at times. He loves cats,
and will love Conan once he gets used to the idea.)

I am on hold now. It is a bit after six here so only just after
three there. I am thinking that maybe if I pay his fee it will buy
us some time?

It would be better if we could find someone in the LA area
who really wants him. But no matter what he is not going to
be put to death for a UTI.

Phil, if you get through to your LA contacts, let me
know.

I doubt my friend would want to adopt him. I dont think he has any
interest in a pet, but I will ask. I was thinking I might be able to ask
him for some assistance if we needed someone to get Conan out of the
shelter asap. Maybe, just maybe, Conan will be adopted to a great home
and have a happy ever after right there in LA. I hope so!

It's good to have him in case we just need legs to get to the shelter
and get him out!

There are a lot of people in LA, and we all have this great tool
that can reach some of them.

Mary, if you want him Sky Ark transports animals from Ca to NC.

Instead of a Conan Fund, people can donate directly to Sky Ark.

http://www.skyark.org/  for more info.

Let me know what you want to do.

Phil, I really do want him. But John lives here too. There's the rub.
I would prefer that someone who lives in his area take him--if they
will provide the forever home that he deserves. But if it comes down
to him going on death row, I will definitely pay his adoption fee and
whatever they want to take him and put him on the plane.

Thanks for the info, you are always there when we need you.

Just waded through all the posts on Conan (phew) and will state this
is great news and I will also contribute generously if Conan needs a
home outside of LA. However, I have a problem with privacy using
paypal to a group member but can live with paypal to a shelter, vet or
transport service. Which brings up the problem of getting pledges so
that some outfit doesn't end up with a pile of cash or not enough
cash.

Planes are out unless traveling in the passenger cabin. A recent new
law requiring airlines reveal the death rate of pet cargo has resulted
in some airlines refusing to carry pets if they have to publish stats
on death rate. That states volumes about safety in the cargo hold.

What about that service that transported a cat to a group member who
adapted a cat from a lady who had severe health issues (cancer I
believe)?

Kudos to all those who spent time and money tracking down Conan and
speaking to the shelter personnel.

I really like the idea of paying the place directly, whether it be the
transport service, the person who will pick him up to transport him
(I mean that I  will send a PayPal directly to that person), or to the
shelter
(in case someone local decided to take me up on my offer of paying
his adoption fee.)

This place that Phil found: http://www.skyark.org/ is set up to
take donations, so they could transport him and anyone who
wanted to help could do so that way. (My husband objects to
my spending the money to transport Conan, so help would be
appreciated. Just as with adopting Conan if nobody else will,
he will not stop me, but we have a relationship based on
mutual respect and I would like to keep it that way!)

I would never, ever try to fly an animal in the cargo hold. Ugh.

I don't recall that, maybe someone else does.

Thanks, Maurice. He's a neat boy! I don't just want him not to
get killed but to get the hell out of the shelter and have a forever
home. One thing if I take him: I will keep him forever no matter
what. I don't have the heart for anything else. The two things that
keep me from just saying "&%$# it" and taking him are:

1. The long trip for him, air or drive, would be very hard
2. The fact that my husband does not want another cat.

That said, if he is not adopted out soon I will take him.

Same here.  Not that I don't trust the people who are in on the "Save Conan"
mission, but it would be easier.

I just read their site and WOW!! What a wonderful project. They have a bus
and a cross-country "Greyhound" kind of route. You can bet I will donate to
that, regardless of whether we need to transport Conan.
What a neat thing!!

They're one of the best I've seen.  Flying Paws is another:

It's worth chilling out for a moment here - if you are going to adopt
the big C, then freighting him x-country wants some thought, given that
he's just getting over a URI. Probably need to chill until he's 100%,
however long that may be, and also until you're 100% sure that you do
indeed want to adopt him (given that he's not in immediate danger of
execution now).

Same here, I am in the UK so adoption is not vialble but I would be willing
to contribute via Paypal to his upkeep if that is an option.

Me too. Paypal is so easy to do.
