Yesterday, I tagged along on a test drive of a brand new top of the line
Toyota Avalon. Very NICE car with a powerful engine, separate rear A/C unit
for the back seat passengers and ...  AND ... a cat door. Yes!  A cat door!
Check it out!  Just fold down the arm rest and there's the cat sized door to
the trunk!

<Ahem> lol

I think that is for umbrellas, and other longer packages.

Of course what cat could resist a little door, especially one that
smells like top grain leather.

I looked in there while the trunk was open.  It's a CAT DOOR    ;^)   The
opening is about the width of your hand with fingers spread wide.

No self respecting cat would slum it in anything less than a jag!

There is nothing in this article about a cat door.

Adam .... LOOK at the picture of the back seat.  The closed doorway is
visible with the arm rest down, as shown.  That's why I included the picture
set.   Now, did you expect the words "cat door" to appear in the Toyota or
the magazine copy?  Well, did you?
Hopitus - 15 Jun 2005 22:23 GMT
I didn't know there were scrolling pictures (only looked @ the first one)
till you pointed it out. There is a commercial these days w/young dude
shoving an obnoxious dog back into one of those "doors"; then his
doting girl owner rescues him (dog) from rear deck area.
"Cat door" might be next; the tv commercials are full of big smelly hairy
d-pets jumping in and out of SUV's! LOL.

Thank you, Hopitus.  That narrow scroll bar along the left side of the
screen must be invisible to some computer users.  LOL

Maybe we'll find Megan's cats stashed in the trunk of her new Avalon.  LOL

But, everyone has a scroll bar on the right side.   ;^)

Hey, I just found out.

If you use Internet explorer, you can put the scroll bar on the left
side!
(like anyone would want to, but you can, it's easy)

Right click on a blank spot on the page...
In the popout menu, come down to >Encoding

Scoot over on that menu, it drops down, then Go> Right-To-Left-Document

So yeah, I got a scroll bar on the left side after all. lol

Indeed.  But everything else on the page is also reorientened righ to left.
Make this change to somebody's computer and watch 'em sweat.  LOL

but once you click a link, it defaults back

Cat door or not, it's up to the puchaser to decide.

*But* this does remind me of a story DH's nephew told of when he was in
traing for the reserves, stationed in Texas.  Him and 6 other guys decided
to go down into Mexico to do some drinking.  To get there they had to rent a
car - and at 10pm, the only car the rental place had left was a Dodge Neon.
Tiny Car.  Six strapping young military dudes.  Barely enough room for 4
adults in those cars.  But they managed to get 6 of them into the passenger
area, the smallest went into the trunk.

The return trip was, um, eventful, to say the least.

To begin with, they were all drunk.  Some weenie couldn't hold his likker
(if I had been there, that would have been me), so they pulled over to let
him out to toss up whatever he could.  Nearby was a hotel/motel.  In their
drunken rauciousness, they woke a guest of said hotel - hotel guest looks
out the window and sees a bunch of guys pulled off the road, and in his
mind, stuffing a body back into the trunk.  Nephew & pals continue on their
journey, only to have at least 6 police cars surround them within 20
minutes.  All officers had their guns drawn and pointed at them.  The
innebreated 7 sobered up real quick, but the funniest part is when DH's
nephew, the last person to exit the car, was just getting out & the a set of
hands comes poking out the access panel for the trunk.  Nephew said the look
on the cops faces was so funny - he lost it!  Needless to say they escaped
going to jail for murder, even for DUI by telling the cops that they were
heading for the hotel up the road.

I think you're reading into it what you want. As someone else pointed out it's likely
an opening for long objects like skiis. It does not even make sense to have a cat
door to a car's trunk. The cat rides in a buckled carrier, not in a trunk.
