Hi all,
I'm new and have a problem with my long hair calico, Tipper. She's normally
kind of a crazy cat, always busy and all, but tonight she's acting
differently. She keeps cleaning herslef in a frantic way. She bites at the
floor a bit and then races around the house trying to find a place to hide
I've been avle to catcher her and brush her and can't find anything wrong.
She's not throwing up and she just peed in the litter box. We do have an
invasion of black ants and I wonder if one of them could have bitten her.
This has been going on for about 3 hours. Thanks!

I think you already know the answer.

I had an ant problem, what I did was mix a pasty sugar solution and put
it near the ant trail.(about a cup of sugar) Within and hour I had a
zillion ants all over the sugar, all of them pulling up on it. Then I
sprayed them all in one place, and swept them all out the door.

Wow, I just re-read my post and saw all the typos! You know it probably is
the ants, but she's been carrying on for almost 4 hours now. The ants
aren't crawling on her, I mean I've seen one every couple of hours. Could
she just be sensitive? What did you spray your ants with? Thanks for the
help!

You know them saturday evenings with nothing to do, you might roll up
on a thrift store, before you can get out of the store you feel like
your itching? Can't lick your lips till you get home and take a shower?

She probably got a bite, and seen them crawling, now her skin is
crawling even though none are on her. Actaully, before I gathered them
up with the sugar Ruprecht my cat, was eating the ants (little ants).

I used regular ant spray, then after sweeping wiped it off with a wet
rag.

Almost off the subject: One thing I think is easy to overlook is when
you spray things in the house, you should consider the over-flow if
your spraying around food bowls.(you know this, but I've caught myself
several times, with lysol disenfectant and air fresheners) I don't
think it would KILL them, but it would probably make them feel sick if
they got enough.

this is how my cat acted when he had allergies. But if you have ants, that
might be it.

Hi Andrea,

She sounds pretty frantic. I'm wondering if there's a bite or allergy or
something under all of that long hair that you didn't see. You'd have to
go over her inch by inch. Is she licking or biting a certain area that
you can check?

If she's doing this for hours, I'd be tempted to get her into the
emergency vet for some relief. Even if it is just a bite, they could
give her something for inflammation and itching. It also could be
something else -- I'd hate to guess on something like that.

Good luck,

Rhonda

Perhaps one got in her nose or an ear  -- that would make her wild!
