Pudge, with her undercoat, rarely seemed to mind the heat. Hodge the
Shorthair, no undercoat, seems to mind it even more than I do. He's been
lying in unusual places for him, corners and a lot in front of the
refrigerator (like he knows it's cooler in there and wants in). It's not
that hot yet, only in the lower 80s, when it can get to be 95 and even
105 here, but it's getting to me, too. Hope it's not going to be one of
*those* summers.

I think there is a "cooling" blanket you can get for them to lie on. Check
out Drs. Foster and Smith.

We just got a new coffee table and it didn't take Squeeks long to figure out
if he lounges on it that the air conditioner blows right over
him.........ahhhhhhhhhhhh the life of my poor cat.

Actually, I didn't. It's cooler by the lake, where I am, but for some
reason, it's pretty warm in here, even though it's not bad out there. I
don't have a cross breeze (east/north windows) here, so that may be part
of it. Plus, I can't open them wide because of Kamikaze Hodge.

Both my cats love(d) that position. Come to think of it, I do, too. :)

He looks great, by the way. Vampire fangs and all. :)

Heh, he is quite the specimen, huh? ;)
Thank goodness he still has the fangs. He did crack one when he got sick
in the Spring. He is probably as close to a toothless cat as you can
find! ;)

heh.  Wish you could send some of that heat over here, we had a high in
the 50's today.  Something like 66f is the average summer HIGH
hereabouts.  Didn't used to bother me, but I'm craving heat this year
for some reason.  Must be getting old.

When Meep gets hot, she stretches out in that inelegant position I call
'beanie baby' (like the cat beanies that were out years ago).  Out on
her belly, legs splayed out in all directions.

The coat is an insulator against heat as well as cold.  A cat has many more
secondary hairs (undercoat) than primary hairs and many more secondary hairs
on their bellies than on their backs.  The ratio is about 24:1 on the belly
(ventrally) and about 10:1 on the back (dorsally).

Hodge is more affected by heat than Pudge because he has less insulation.

Well, I certainly have plenty in the form of fat. :)

It's not that hot, although it's hotter in here than outside, and he's
not suffering, just lethargic like me. When he gets really hot, he does
a bit of panting. But he's okay. He finally figured out there's a cool
breeze coming in the east window and is on the ledge.
