I had to burn the last one down, Phil littered it with
pure-t-filth.

What is all this I am hearing about shelters?

Cats coming out of them sick? (looking at Phil)

Why I hear you can get your children sick bringing a cat home from one
of them places?

It's like one of them infomercials...

You put forth the myth, then you get an educated answer.

It's like all the things you wanted to know, but was afraid a needle
dick like Phil would jump down your throat.

Phil, if you can't hit baby, don't step up to the plate.

You know nothing of teamwork, of promtitude...

You wouldn't know a cue if it crawled up your leg and bit you on your
a.s..

Yure a spineless little man, and you have NO imagination.

Hmmmmmmm

I see a pot

and a kettle

and the pot is saying something......

bigbadbarry isn't big nor bad, just spouting of loads of gibberish, and when
he does actually make a coherent sentance, the facts are somewhat skewed -
and when he gets called on it..... more inane gibberish, and namecalling to
boot. Won't even name his sources of info... probably can't because there is
no source....

Methinks bigbad needs to either stop taking his meds, or if he's already
stopped, he needs to start....

Very much more of it and bigbadbarry will be added to my *plonk* file...
Phil P., KellyH and anyone else who's tired of his babbling, please *plonk*
bigbad, so he can post to his gibberish to his hearts content, and he'll
only be talking to himself.

I put forth an honest question, and was called a f.cker from jump
street.

Please please please kill file me.

I know you don't read, because everything I posted I gave the original
source
What? you grading the posts?

Youi need to do your homework

don't get upset with me just because a gaggle of disfunctional self
abusers cannot have thier little way.

Now, since I know you don't read, I have no choice but to put you in
the same category with the one who called me a f.cker.

Actually, I'm upset with you because of your continuing to post incoherent
rambling, the calling of names.... and a number of other reasons.

I read - been reading your babble for long enough.

Unfortunately, mindless morons like babblingbarry are too dangerous to
kill-file.  These shelter horror insinuations must be nipped in the bud
before they cause irreversible damage that results in the death of cats.

Fortunately, I think most people realize babblingbarry is babbling idiot and
won't give his mindless rambling any credibility.

OK, I stayed out of the original thread. But I'm stepping in now, to
clue you in that you're not fooling me, and probably anyone else
either.
You came on this newsgroup with a constant barrage of the kind silly,
nonsensical sh.t you'd find in a chat room.  But *every once in a
while*, you slip and post something remarkably well-written and
intelligent. So I assumed you were here to play some kind of game. And
I knew if you played it long enough you'd piss off the wrong person.
Mary jumped on me because I "didn't like the way you posted." But it
wasn't just that. Off-topic conversation, IMO, enhances a newsgroup to
some degree. But the above-mentioned constant barrage of incoherent
doo-doo cluttering up the group just turns people off.
There are some people who actually read this group for cat health &
behavior educational purposes. There are some people for whom that
subject is NOT silly, nonsensical sh.t, it is damn serious sh.t. Phil P
is one of those people. And when he "steps up to the plate" (your
phrase) you can bet your a.s he is going to hit the ball.
And he's right. You have NO IDEA how many people lurk and never post at
all. Unless you *know* what youre talking about, and you don't, you
should have *never* insinuated that shelters are venues of disease. And
that's the impression you left, and you know it.

I was trying to extract the truth about shelters...get some facts and
opinions

Sherry, I don't know what to think now, cause all this defensiveness
has caused me to question, "what is Phil hiding" He tried his best to
shut me up. why? because I was interested in learning about a shelter?

it makes zero sense to me.

damn, maybe I'm missing something.

So why didn't you just ask?  Why couldn't you say something like "I'm
thinking of volunteering at a shelter, but I have a concern about diseases.
Can a person catch a disease at a shelter, or could I bring one home to my
cat?"
Why all the beating around the bush and posting a bunch of crap?

Because he just conjured up the idea about volunteering in a shelter- as a
red-herring- *after* I broiled him for insinuating shelter cats are sickly.

Between you and me?...We know how many lies and misquotes you have
fabricated..
but that's ok' a.sholes like you are a dime a dozen.

The only thing you have going for you in these peoples eyes is the idea
that you perform some sort of volunteer work?

ah bullshit there's no way someone as rude as you, could have any
interest in helping anyone but themselves.

I think your a big fraud and a cut-n-paste kind of guy. You don't know
sh.t from shinola boy

I haven't seen you post nothing, but little kindergarden slams.

I asked you a legit question.  Why couldn't you just come out and ask your
question instead of all this run-around, "If I post the myth it's your job
to educate" stuff?
What you did was equivalent to going to an AIDS support group and saying
"Hey I heard you can get AIDS from a toilet seat" and then getting all upset
when people tell you to stop it.
I tried to be nice and answer your questions, when you finally put them
forth.

To tell you the truth: I wanted to know about shelters.

and really, I was interested in hearing any information anyone wanted
to share about sicknesses, diseases, viruses, germs, pre-cautions,
procedure...etc.

In hearing about Philips cat, it crossed my mind, that maybe it is not
much different than a regular hosptitol in the way of germs. A
brilliant conclusion from a non-trained laymen. I even had the same
ideas as you about sterilizing a facility.

I have been hpyed for several days about getting involved, today did
not pan out for me / time wize, but hopefully tommarrow.

I don't know how else to ask the question(s) I did, or open the door
for general comments on the subj.

When I joined the group, the sign on the door, said,
rec.pets.cats.health+behav
so it is not the same as asking an idiotic question like, Uh I hure yuh
can git aiuds frum a tallet site. Its not the same :)

I get the feeling this has a little more to do with something else;
(not saying)
but, I think I could have asked ANY question and gotten the same
response.

CHARTER: rec.pets.cats.health+behav
This unmoderated group houses discussion concerning the health and
behavior of domestic cats. Appropriate topics include the prevention
and treatment of health problems and diseases; the care of pregnant,
young, and geriatric cats; cat reproduction; heredity; first aid for
cats; internal and external parasites; normal and abnormal behaviors in
cats; techniques for changing unwanted behaviors; and theories
concerning cat health, behavior, and physical characteristics. Specific
examples of acceptable topics are these:

Diabetes, feline leukemia, and other diseases.
Safely eradicating fleas.
Cats clawing furniture.
NOTE - Declawing flame wars are STRONGLY discouraged.
Choosing a balanced feline diet

Yes I can be the first to post something silly, but I think I should
get a little more credit than the aids on the toilet seat analogy.

Sooo... what is really going on here. I think I know.

mhmmm

OK, fine. Anyone with half a brain and basic personal hygeiene habits
isn't going to catch anything working at a shelter. Ringworm, maybe.
There's always an extremely minute risk that you're going to come into
contact with an animal infected with rabies. There *is* a rabies titre
vaccine, but with the risk-ratio vs. the extremely high cost of the
serum, no shelter workers that I know ever get innoculated. The other
risk factors are bites and scratches, also dramatically reduced with
proper procedure and use of protective gear.
Expect to pull a tick out of your hair occasionally. With that comes
the risk of tick-borne disease, also fairly minute.
One risk worth considering is carrying disease (or specifically, most
common, ringworm spores) home on your clothing and infecting your own
cats. Anyone who works/volunteers at a shelter should never wear the
same shoes inside the house, and pull off your clothing and wash it
immediately.
It's just no big deal. I've never known anyone who ever came down with
any virus or sickness caught from a cat, and I've been around
shelters/stray animals for many years.
