Responding to name?

Hi again!

Yoshi and Kimber have settled in nicely now
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/derien/sets/416301/) and we've been giving
them afew treats which have been sending them into a frenzy at times :)

Kimber will come and take them out of your hand, but Yoshi is a bit
reluctant to still (they're not even nine weeks yet!)

As I've said in a previous post, I'm a cat owner novice (so is my g/f), but
I was wondering at what sort of age would they be when they would be
responding to being given a treat when they come to their respective names?
Sometimes they move their ears back to us when we say their names, but that
may be coincidence!

I love this photo of Yoshi I took this morning!

Thanks in advance!

My cats will tell you that moving their ears in your general direction
*IS* a response, and if you don't like it, well, we're cats what did
you expect?

That being said, my cats don't like treats and they will still (mostly)
acknowledge us when we call them. They respond to various things
including "kittens", their names and "get your fuzzy butt off that
fence!" It'll happen. And how they respond will change as they grow up.

It will take time and you always using the name when referring to
them... it will be more difficult with two, but certainly not impossible.

So cute! Congratulations on the growth of your little family there.
I can't remember exactly when I noticed my pair of littermate
kittens started responding to their names, but it didn't take long,
that I can tell you; maybe a month? My lil wons were about 8 weeks
old back in Nov when I became owned by the lil furballs. Now, one
of the littermates is nearly 15 pounds!! Time flies!

One of mine (Jake)seems to know his name, and will actually come to
me...if he isn't too busy doing other important kitty things.

I would say about 50% of the time I get him to respond, and I haven't
trained him with treats or anything.

Cute kitties btw!!

That is a nice picture......may I make a suggestion about the
treats.....I have read and been told by many not to give the cat
treats or if you do give them very sparingly especially a
kitten.....my vet gave me welcome type package that had a small packet
of kitten food different from what I am feeding him and I just use a
piece of that for treats.....its different from his food so I am
thinking he will respond to that as well as any treat and it should
certainly be safe for them in larger quantities if you want to use it
for training purposes......very small pieces though I would like to
find a kitten food with larger chunks but I doubt that will be
possible.....
