A new baby kitten has wandered into our lives, her body is only about
5-6 inches long ...
i mixed some canned food  and some milk and gave it to her,him , they
ate it like there is no tomorrow .......  the baby is in a pet carrier
with  a litter pan and a cushy rug....

my kitty and my doggie want to make friends, i KNOW i should keep them
apart...... :(

there has been no hissing, no growling.

kitty just cries when MY kitty leaves its sight...   :(

how far apart do i have to keep the kitten from my animals ??

WHY does this always happen on weekends/ holidays when the vets won't be
open for awhile ??

grrrr!!

Thanks for any help.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer, probably at least 4-5 weeks old
since it can eat now, though.  I just wanted to say it's very nice of
you to help this poor little baby and it sounds like you may keep
him/her, too.

If your cat is up on her shots, she can't really catch much from
him/her as long as they don't have direct  contact.  It's sad but I
wouldn't let them play together until you get the baby checked out.

That's true, that seems to be the case, what a drag.

I hope someone helps you more.  Meanwhile, you sound like a very nice
person.

Wow, what a surprise to find a kitten for the holiday!

I might suggest canned food and water, or better yet canned food and KMR
(kitten milk replacement.) Cow's milk might be tough on the kitten's
digestion right now.

Many grocery stores or drug stores carry a KMR-type milk if the pet
stores are closed.

I don't know about keeping them apart or not, maybe someone else here
will have advice. Our kittens from our stray last year were kept
separated from the others until about 4 months old, but they also had
their mother with them.

Do you think your other cat might mother it? If so, it could be good for
both, but you probably first want to make sure the kitten is
disease-free. At the very least, it will need to be wormed.

Let us know what happens, and thanks for taking care of the little one!

Our doggie is good at bringing home stray kitties, this is # 2!

we went to the vet..... 300 bucks and 3 hours later....
its a female, weighed 1.3 lbs.....
probably the .3 was the 1/4 can of cat food she ate.... she is extremely
ematiated :(
but not too severely anemic..... the doc was surprised at how well she
was considering how skinny she is....
they did some sub Q fluids, antibiotics for a mildish  upper resp
infection....
her temp was only 96 :(

gave us antibiotics, ear mite med, a mild case of mites in just one ear,
but treating both, wormed her even tho fecal was negative, feline
leukemia and aids were neg..

she is in the garage where its warmer, with a plate of a/d mixed with
some kmr......

a ticking clock, a radio, the light is on, and she has a litter box...

i hope she will be ok.....

now for a couple hours of sleep!

Great job! You got her into the vet FAST!

That little girl would pay you back the $300 if she could... It's
probably such a wonderful feeling to her just to be able to eat. Sounds
like she was starving.

I'm glad she's doing reasonably well for what she's gone through. She's
such a young thing. What color is she?

Hope she's even better this morning, and the rest of you got some sleep!

Let us know how she's doing,

If everyone was like you, it would be a much, much better
world. It is so great to think of this little one being cared for.
I want to see a picture!! Are you going to keep her or just
foster her until you find her a home?

Today we had a house full of people for dinner for the holiday....

checked on kitty a few times, she would not  eat :(

about 7 pm ish.... she finally wanted to eat some.... she prob ate about
a teaspoon of food, drank a little of the kmr- maybe only 1/8th of a
teaspoon-  not as much as i would have liked tho....

i lied yesterday when i said she was 1.3 lbs...... she was 1.03
:(

the poor little sweetie...... she likes to  have us pet her...... she
will start purring almost  immediately....

hopefully she will start to eat more regularly and eat MORE of the
food.....

she doesnt get the peeing and pooping thing at all yet, mostly lays and
sleeps IN the tiny bin we have filled with litter for her....we had her
in the sink some to wipe her off, she went to the corner of it and
peed...... so far no pooping yet .... prob doesnt have enough INSIDE her
yet to make a poop.

Is there a way to have her learn the art of peeing and pooping in the
box ?

and sleeping on the rug ?

she is adorable, and every time i feel her little tiny body it breaks my
heart........ I sure hope she will make it......

Probably someone already said this, but after you feed her to you
take a warmish moist and soft cloth and very gently massaged her
belly in downward strokes, like her Mama cat would to help her
poop?

I think it is a little soon for that. In fact I might not even have any
litter
in there with her, just cloths I change and wash. 5-6 weeks is so little.
Right now it seems to me that just enticing her to eat and drink and
keeping her warm and massaging her little abdomen gently after she
eats are the things to do. What did the vet tell you to do, just curious?

> she is adorable, and every time i feel her little tiny body it breaks my

Me too. The one kitten I tried to raise when the mother
rejected it at about 3 weeks did not make it. But it was smaller,
and the vet said there was probably something wrong with it from
birth. Do you have to work tomorrow? I worked a regular 9-5
when I had the kitten, and dropped it off at the vet for them
to feed it while I was at work, then I got it on my way home
from work. They did not charge much.

Laurie, that girl has just got to eat more. The antibiotics may be
taking away her appetite, or her tummy may be upset with all of the
changes. She probably wasn't totally weaned yet.

Do you have a nursing bottle for her? Maybe try that. If that doesn't
work, I'm afraid you will have to force feed her or have the vet do it.

She sounds so sweet. Did you warm up the mix for her? That might entice
her a bit more. There's also a KMR formula that for kittens between
weaned and not weaned -- it's a little thicker than regular KMR.

Hope things get better.

Good luck,

Rhonda

You want to keep her separate until you can get her vet checked. But it
sounds like maybe they will take to the kitten pretty quick. Since it is so
tiny you can keep it in the room where you are in the carrier. Keep us
posted.
