My friend has a 15year old cat - is this a record? I have one who is 12, so
I hope he still has plenty of years to go!!!!

No - mine's nearly 16, and they can go on into their 20's although I
don't think mine will though.

My Tiger celebrated her 15th birthday last month. I also hope she still has
a bunch of years left in her.

Cats live more in a year than we do in 20. They are so much more
alive. Be thankful for every day you have with your cat.

That statement says more about your lethargy and depression that it does
about cats.

**My dear boy, Blue, died almost 6 months ago. He was 19 1/2, and walking
and eating until the last evening he died from a massive stoke ( due to his
very recent cardio mylopathy dianosis). He was slowing down the last 6
months of his life, I could tell, but he still* seemed so outwardly healthy
with his beautiful and glossy coat, and his strong spririt, and always
gentle ways. I miss him like there's no tomorrow.

Our former cat lived to be about a month shy of 19 when he died. He slowed
down considerably his last year or so, and thinned down to a very skinny 9
lbs (from a high of almost 20), but he was alive and happy almost to the
end.

My first cat lived to be 20 and some months. I have met a cat that was said
to be 27! She looked it too. :)

The Guinness Book of Records gives the prize for feline longevity to
Granpa, a housecat who passed away in 1998 at the age of 34 years 2 months.
There was also a woman in Devon, England, who attested that her cat Puss
was 36 years old when she died in 1939, but this claim remains unverified.

Two of our cats were 18 when they died.
Our vet had a cat who passed away at 27. Someone brought her in to be
euthanized at age 20, saying she was old and was throwing up. The vet
said no way and kept her as an office cat for another 7 years.
Sadly, the cat actually died 2 days before the vet.

Not even remotely. A colleague has an 18yo cat. Cats that reach their early
20s are relatively common. My 2 are 10.5 and the vet recently commented that
they could look forward to a further 6-10 years

My first cat lived to be 18, and Maynard was less than two weeks from
his 19th birthday. Both were happy to the end, and while showing some
frailty at the end, were still getting around fine and doing well.
It's a combination of things - good genes, good care, happy (not always
stressed out), etc. But many cats live into their upper teens and 20s.

Nope. Kami just turned 17. The cat I grew up with lived to be 17, and
my parents also had a cat that lived until 22.
Just for trivia, the average cat to human age equivalents are:
1 = 16-18
2 = 21-25
3 = 29
4 = 33
5 = 37
6 = 41
7 = 45
8 = 49
9 = 53
10 = 57
11 = 61
12 = 65
13 = 69
14 = 73
15 = 77
16 = 81
17 = 85
18 = 89
19 = 93
20 = 97
21 = 101

Well, would you?

My mother had a female lynx point siamese that lived to the ripe old age of
21. In her last years she was deaf but otherwise healthy. Ma found her
expired curled up on the windowsill in the livingroom.
