So we have had KitKat for almost 3 months now and he is still afraid of
my husband.    Mike doesn't yell at him or anything I think that it is
that he is just a loud man.  The cat will run out of a room if Mike
gets up from a sitting position and seems to only let Mike touch him
when I am there and he is already very relaxed.  We have had Mike
feeding him and cleaning his litterbox hoping KitKat will see Mike as a
care giver.  I think Mike is getting a complex - any other ideas.

Tell Mike not to try at all...

Don't call the cat, don't make eye contact...watch the cat come check
him out.

I think you're doing the right thing with Mike feeding him. Sometimes
with cats, food is trust. He could also keep treats in his pocket!

Think about always sitting on the floor (and take shoes off in the house.
Shoed feet are scary things) when being in KitKat's presence. While watching
TV etc. Mike might even consider reading out loud from a book or the
newspaper to KitKat. Animals like to be talked to. It relaxes us and so I
think that transfers to relaxing them.

This would probably help. He could read Of Mice And Men.

I was reading an article about why cats always seem to goto the guests
who really don't want the cat to get near them...just the opposite of
what you might think. People who called the cat, the cat was not
interested, but if they tried to avoid the cat..the cat couldn't stand
it and would go find out why. If I read it...then it must be true...lol

I think it just takes time.  Eric can now do just about anything with
Oscar that I can do, but it took about two years for her (Oscar) to
get comfortable.  She still jumps and runs sometimes when people get
out of chairs or do other innocuous things; she's just a nervous cat.

When I first met Eric, he said he was not a cat person and would never
be comfortable around Oscar.  Now he picks her up, dances with her
(holding her front paws and singing), and she trusts him enough to
curl up on him to sleep.  It just took time.

Oh Monique I hope so.  I feel so bad - although every once in awhile
KitKat will sit with Mike - he is usually sitting just out of reach.

THAT is fairly normal. Sugar does this all the time. Drives me nuts. It
sounds like he will come around eventuallly.
