He is obviously a sweet natured cat, like my Dillon, if I brush him on
his back leg at the top, he doesnt like it so he gives me a little
nibble, just to let me
know he doesnt like it, my other cat, Toby, would rip me to pieces, we
even took to wearing gardening gloves when we brushed him, and I said,
we, because it took two of us!

I have to do this with my dog. Even with a muzzle on, she has managed
to nip me. She was 4 when I got her, and the idiot backyard breeder had
kept her with plans to breed her. She was keep in an outdoor kennel and
never handled (or groomed) in those 4 years. So, when she decided to
get rid of her, she spent 4 hours cleaning her up. This dog absolutely
HATES being brushed. I found out the hard way.
And now we have hot weather and she is blowing coat. I didn't have time
to fight with her yesterday, so I just aimed a fan at the bed to keep
her cool. Burshing will commence tomorrow. Muzzle for her and heavy
gloves for me. I wish it didn't have to be this way.
My mom is lucky. She has a sheltie too, but hers forgot to grow an
undercoat. We joke that she has a "wirehair" sheltie. She is 3 years
old and has never had an undercoat. No fluff whatsoever. And she is a
breeze to brush. My dog, on the other hand, blows coat every coupdl
months, and has more undercoat than top coat.
Now, with the cats, I have one that goes nuts for brushing. Show he a
brish and she comes running. Her motto is "Thou shalt not brush anybody
before me." She actually gets upset when I brush somebody else, and she
tries to get in the way and intercept the bursh. She has also been
known to use my hairbrush. She finds it on the counter and pushes
herself against it.
Maynard never seemed to care one way of the other, til the last year or
so when he decided it was kinda nice. Jay Jay lets my brush him while I
eat, but he's not too thrilled about it. He has long hair, and the
shelter lady said he had to be cleaned up from being an outdoor cat on
his own. I just doa little bit at a time, and I use a soft brush that
doesn't actually do much, so that he can get used to it. He did get one
mat on the outside of his leg, but I was able to snip it off while he
was eating.
