I need some cat advice!
I have two cats that, until about two months ago, were perfectly happy
to go out and about. There are quite a few cats in the neighbourhood,
and they all lived happily together.
A big ginger tom cat has now appeared from somewhere (I think he lives
a few doors down) and terrifies them so they don't want to go out.
This means I either make them stay in all day or force them out, which
means they start crying and growling. And I've seen the ginger brute
chase them both up the garden and really scare them on several
occasions
I don't have a cat flap, and the ginger cat will always come in and
steal the food if I leave the door open, pushing my wimpy cats aside.
He has a magnet on his collar so there's no point in installing a
secure cat flap for my cats to get in and out as he'd still be able to
get in. He's sat outside my back door at every possible opportunity.
I don't know what to do! he's a bully and no matter how much I've
tried to shoo him away, even trying a bit of water, he just sits and
looks at me. I spoke to his owner, but she just laughed and said he
was a bit of a bully.
Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with this? Otherwise, I'm
going to have to move house.
Thanks
Alee

Perhaps you can work with your neighbor to agree on a schedule so that his
cat is out during a certain time period while you keep your cats inside and
another time period where your cats are out while he keeps his inside.

Try a _lot_ of water. Turn the garden hose on the little rascal.
A good soaking will discourage it.

Hey,
I also had a similar problem before I had my cat flap. There was this huge
(knee height when stood) grey Persian (like the one in 'meet the parents')
and it would chase my cat (6 ~ 7 months at the time) all the way up to our
patio! It never came in though!
Try spraying some aerosol (e.g. household air fresheners etc) not directly
at the cat though :-P the noise should get it going. Here's another of my
concoctions: get an empty can (beans etc) and fill it up with something
small and hard, I used lentil beans and seal it.. rattle. It was original
made as a toy but became a displine tool.
When the bully comes chase it away, don't hurt it, just act a bit crazy with
your your limbs flying all over the place and a spray can in one hand a a
rattle in another :-S I did this, had aa cat flap and it hasn't been here in
ages.

Thanks so much for your suggestions - hopefully my neighbours won't
call the police when they see me acting crazy with a baked bean tin
and an aerosal can!!
Fingers crossed it works!

Do you know if this bully is neutered? If he really has an owner I'd
sure take it up with them to have him neutered.
I've had over $700 in vet bills over the past year because of stray,
unneutered tom cats attacking my outdoor barn cats. My poor cats are
just terrified of them.
They were also spraying on my sliding doors and house and upsetting
the house cats, causing one of them to spray inside. We couldn't even
put out our deck furniture this year because of them. They were also
spraying on my hay in the barn -- and let me tell you, horse hay is
not cheap.
I finally had enough and trapped 2 of them and took to the
shelter--we're pretty sure these were stray feral cats with no owners
tho. I felt bad about taking them to the shelter but felt I had no
choice.
If you have the money, trap it and have it neutered yourself. The
owners may never even notice. Anyone who allows an unneutered tom cat
to run loose is irresponsible and doesn't even deserve to own a cat.
And if its unneutered, you have to wonder if its vaccinated.
