More than just instinct, but they carry things out to a logical
conclusion.
I was going to bed the other night and Ruprecht followed me like most
nights...and he's on the bed before I lay down.
This night, I changed my mind I wanted to check my email.
I started moving away from the bed, and Ruprecht started to climb down.
I paused...he paused...(he's still on the bed)...looking to see what
I'm goin do. we're kind of eyeing each other...
Finally I say..."oh, go on and get a snack before we crash"...he
trotted off to the kitchen. Few mins later we're both back in the
bedroom all tucked in.
I thought it was cute. He was willing to goto bed, but there's always
room for one more snack. I told him, you ain't hungry!
This is proof that cats plan ahead.

I don't doubt this for a second. They say that animals do not have
abstract thought, but I've lived with Kami long enough to know they
can figure out consequences ahead of time and make deliberate
decision to do or not to do. They also plot and plan. There is a
trivia thing associate with "PawPoints" for Scoop Away and one asked
a multiple choice question as to what you cat was doing when she
laid with her eyes closed with the end of her tail slowly moving.
They answer was spying. They pretend they don't hear, that you
don't see, etc. Clever little beasties, they are.
