Bathroom cat on the porch

Charlie Wilkes - 16 May 2005 07:08 GMT The bathroom cat is on the porch in the pet porter, which is the large-dog size and should be reasonably comfortable. I investigated weekend vet options in the area and none were acceptable, so the cat is parked there until tomorrow a.m.
I didn't want to risk opening the door to put a litter box in the porter, so I tipped it up and poured litter in through the gate. When I set it back down, the litter was reasonably collected in the rear of the porter, allowing a clean area in front.
This cat is fastidious and retained its bowels until the litter was available, even though it ate a big meal immediately before being shut up in the porter.
It has been growling at me and giving me a look of raw hatred every time I approach the porter, so naturally I have been keeping Holly away -- she is a big dog of the kind that normally alarms cats.
But I let Holly out a little while ago and did not bother to stop her when she sniffed at the gate. I noticed the bathroom cat didn't react much.
Holly likes to lounge on the porch. I just stepped out and she was peacefully reclined in her usual spot, about four feet in front of the gate to the pet porter. I peered at the bathroom cat through a slot on the side of the pet porter. Its eyes were closed, and for the first time ever, I heard it purring.

Good luck at the vet today. Holly will chase a cat in the yard. But cats warm up to her in a hurry, I have noticed. Tweaker practically worships her. I used to have a pet rooster who really liked her too.
I think the bathroom cat feels safe inside the pet porter and was enjoying Holly's company and the mild spring air last night. That cat hates my guts though, no doubt about it.

The cat is feral, no way is he going to be able to trim her claws. He doesn't need to give the cats a bath either. Or are you attempting to be funny?

This used to be an awesome newsgroup. A lot of people with excellent knowlege and experience gave good advice and people got along fairly well most of the time. Anymore it's a wasteland of internet trash. The only reason I hang on at all is because there are a few old regulars left, and I figure there may be some people who actually come here for advice (as you did) and I have good experience to offer. But I'm starting to doubt if it's worth my time any longer. Seriously.

There are *LOTS* more instances of his misoginistic digs, but he's been pretty racist in his comments also. I forget what thread it was, but there was that whole "inner city" argument of his. His Archie Bunker imitation is irritating - I'd offer more examples, but I don't feel like googling.
His general "assholiness" as Sherry calls it is becoming infamous here.

I can't say what I would feel if I lived a different life than I do. No one can. Millions of perfectly healthy cats are killed every year. Perhaps the vitriole would be better served to people who don't even care for the ones they have and dump them at shelters to be PTS. Considering how many people abuse their cats, neglect their cats, and dump their cats, one person's opinion on disabled cats (a person who as far as we know cared for his cats very much and never harmed them) seems a bit inconsequential. YMMV, obviously, but this is why I don't understand why people got so piping mad. The guy stated opinions that people might not agree with, but it's not like he did anything at all to hurt any cat. If I'm mistaken, forgive me, but I have yet to see anything that indicates to me that he ever did anything remotely wrong other than state an unpopular opinion or three. And sometimes it appears that he semi-trolls the more emotional people here. Not all that nice, but certainly not all that harmful, either, except maybe to someone's blood pressure or ego.

A dose of his own medicine? I did a quick search and found a post about letting the disabled pet outside instead of in a stroller because of a perceived issue with egos and dignity. Since the cat would have fun either way, I assume it is the human ego and digity at issue. BFD. Anyway, you've obviously having fun or getting something out of it, so that's all that counts, right?

You can't understand my contempt for a.sholes like him because you haven't worked with disabled cats- which are 'euthanasia candidates' as far as he's concerned- nor have you seen disabled cats killed that could have lived a long and happy life. Cats are infamous for adapting to almost any disability and going on to live long, happy lives. Ever hear of how near-normal "Tripods'" lives are? Or blind cats adapting so well that many people can't even tell the cats are blind?

What you don't seem to understand is attitudes like his *do* cause cats harm.

Apparently you missed his comment about a crippled cat being a 'euthanasia candidate'-- and 'macho Mexicans with pit bulls'-- and Vietnamese reducing the dog population... He's a racist bigot in addition to being devoid of compassion for cats with special needs.

Yeah, the problem with that advice (from his perspective) is that when confronted with a strong, intelligent woman he would be too intimidated to get it up and *get* them laid! ;> This precludes the fact, though, that a strong, intelligent woman would not get close enough to Philip to even give him that chance!

It may have something to do with *content* of the posts. What Cheryl did with Shadow is actually chronicle his illness, from onset, to various diagnoses, to treatment, and ultimately his death. Those posts are an archived lesson for anyone facing HL, IBD, and anyone who wonders about when (not) to give up on a beloved friend. She did the same thing with the saga of trapping and taming Bonnie, and now Shadows allergy situation, which I know is of interest to anyone whose cat suffers from allergies.
But then, to quote a couple of "Barry's" posts....
"blah blah ble blewey blewey ble bloo ble ble ble? blee blee Good luck and keep us posted,oh and blee blah blah bleeeuueey we wee"
"I'm blind, and can't find my teeth or the cat any ideas (please hurry Im getting hungry"
And possibly the most thought-provoking from Barry: "# # # # # # # # # # # # # # # #" # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # #"
So, gee Mary. I guess the kind of posts we prefer *does* have a lot to do with our character. You're right, yet again.

At this point, the way the tech market (especially web tech) is sagging - with another 80,000 U.S. tech jobs scheduled to be outsourced overseas at the end of this year(!!?), I'm looking at finding an Executive Assistant position (which, in the current job market, actually pays more than web tech does!!!).

People post in a group for a while and get proprietary about it. It bothers me when anyone discourages new people from posting. I hate "them and usness," and I hate bullies. Post anything you want but do not interefere with what others post. This is a free and open forum. Also he is in RPDB, a non-stop circus of human stupidity. I dipped in there the other day and read about the latest dog tragedy. Someone's pug choked to death on an apple core. It grabbed the apple core and when the owner tried to get it away, it ran off. The woman was beside herself. Her equally clueless friends consoled her with kind words and assurances that it was a freak accident that was no one's fault. Of course Jerry stepped in and said, this happened because your dog didn't trust you. I didn't post anything because I didn't want to make the woman feel worse, but Jerry was quite correct. A dog can readily be trained to obey simple commands, but not the way these RPDB women want to do it, which is by turning the training process into a contest of wills between themselves and the animal.

It's the same way with rearing children. Spanking does't correct a child's behavior, it's only an outlet for the parent's anger and teaches the child that violence is the answer to a problem. I firmly believe in the "Three Cs" for training any sentient being: Control (meaning, foremost, control your *own* emotions so that you set a good example to emulate and thereby remain in control of the situation), Consequences (meaning giving rewards for the behavior you're seeking and withholding rewards for the behavior you're trying to discourage - *NOT* "punishing"), and the biggest, Consistancy (meaning *ALWAYS* reward good behavior and withhold rewards for bad behavior). Any sentient being will change their behavior to earn the rewards - it's a basic fact of having nerve endings and emotions. I've even done the seemingly impossible and trained *cats* with the "Three Cs"!
