I thought maybe other cats periodically ate something odd like a green bean, or...potatoe chip, or...
Chris - 15 May 2005 21:40 GMT I once had a cat who would leap across a steak to get at raw potato. It was a challenge to make french fries if she was within 30' of the potatoes.

Gabe loves popcorn (I make sure there are no husks) and Oreo loves yogurt. Oreo will sit at my feet and wait until I am done with the cup. Then I put it down for her and she licks up all the leftovers (which I purposely leave behind) around the top of the container. Doesnt like milk though!

Doesnt like milk though! I'd be careful of popcorn husks or not. Our neighbor kid died at three y.o. choking on popcorn. A kid's trachea is bigger than a cats :(

A kid's trachea is bigger than a cats :( Yeah, I remember my sister giving my nephew (whos now 19) popcorn but she kept biting off most of it so he would only have the soft circle of the kernel. I'm only 5 years older than my nephew, so at the time (I would have only been 9 or so) I thought it was gross she was getting her spit on his popcorn! Makes a little more sense now : )
Nick - 16 May 2005 04:58 GMT > I'd be careful of popcorn husks or not. Our neighbor kid died at three > y.o. choking on popcorn. A kid's trachea is bigger than a cats :( Now I can't quote it back to you because I've closed the book, but just this morning I read that humans are the only mammals that can choke.
This was in Bill Bryson's "Mother Tongue" where he talks about the physiological difference between us and Neanderthals. Our larynx is much lower in the trachea, allowing us to make more sounds, but also allowing us to choke. His idea was that Homo Sapiens' language is much more developed than Neanderthals' would have been.
Anyway, some one who knows cat anatomy can chime up now....
"Chime" that's a joke. Get it? Huh? Huh? Oh, never mind, I get the same reaction from my nephews.

This cat won't, but plenty of cats like cheddar cheese.

My previous cat loved broccoli with cheese.

My husband wont let me feed it to them since they are 'domestic' animals, so I dont argue with him, but I figure... if they're outdoor cats and kill a mouse or when they catch the bugs around here.... isnt that basically raw meat? Its easier to let it slide until I have ammo to come back and prove him wrong... or keep my mouth shut if hes right!

I have two cats that I show (in the alter class) and a third who will go into the HHP class after he gets his knees fixed. They all get a raw diet at least once a day and they are healthy and gorgeous, with sleek coats and no dandruff at all.

My cats have been on a raw diet since they were kittens (they're 5 years old now) and are doing great on it. You might want to show this site to your husband so he can get an idea what a raw diet is about. It's kind of an FAQ:

blueberries79 - 17 May 2005 02:50 GMT Wow, thats a great site with lots of info! Do you find it much more expensive to feed a raw diet like this than doing dry or canned? I hadnt thought of doing something like this full time, but I wanted to make sure it would be ok to give them a 'treat' now and again.

I don't feed a raw diet, but the other evening I was cutting up some lamb and my youngest (9 month old) started begging for some, so I gave him a little piece of raw lamb. He acted like he'd died and gone to heaven. I like raw lamb, too. And beef. I figure a little bit doesn't hurt me, so why would it hurt them? I wouldn't give them raw pork or poultry, though.

He's wrong. You are right on the mouse thing. Cats crave a good bit o raw meat. I know mine do, they're always full of attention when I' cooking, and if I don't watch out, they'll even bite the styrofoa container the meat came in because there's juices on that! All my cat furthermore really like cheese, any kind of cheese, sausage, milk yogurt, custard, butter, mayonnaise, raw fish, cooked fish, raw meat cooked meat (heck they'll even eat burnt meat), and my sweetest bu craziest darling Venus likes eating sour pickles! (Do look out with the raw meat tho, too much is never good. It ca cause worms or digestive problems)

blueberries79 - 17 May 2005 22:47 GMT Well the funniest thing about it is that my husband actually has a working appendix b/c of all the raw meat he ate when he was younger. (I forget how the dr determined this) You should see him eat a steak, I wonder if it is even warm on the inside sometimes! And, I suppose my husband thinks hes domestic so I never quite got that argument anyway... Thanks for all the advice!

They cannot choke on the soft white part. Buddha begs for this when we have popcorn.

Buddha is actually a girl whose name was Boo until I saw her after an old friend had had her for a few years. Then she became Buddha due to her belly. :)

chrisoakey@msn.com - 16 May 2005 17:36 GMT My cat likes brussel sprouts, danish pastries, doughnuts.
