It is hard to believe, but our sweet Amaretto is now 14 as of Friday.
He has had diabetes for almost 7 years. His blood sugar is stable and
the vet says his fructosamene test is right on line! We home test his
blood sugar twice a day and do a curve on him at home once a mont.,
Amaretto was abandoned by his mother (Moonlight) at birth; we were
told that she was probably too old to be a first time mother. Of the
three kittens, only this one survived since he happened to be born in
the birthing box provided--we still have a piece of the pink blanket
which saved his life. We have had him since he was 2 days old
--bottle fed and butt wiping with a wet dish towel to make him "go"
included!
He is a wonderful kitty and very devoted to the two of us. He used to
be very mean (biting, scratching, etc...) with strangers, but has now
mellowed to the point that even the vet tech who does his food and
insulin when we are away can handle him relatively easily.
He's a dear, and we wish him well for his 14th birthday and many more
years to come!
