Well, I've discovered the hard way that you get rid of clumping litter by
putting it in a bag, not trying to flush it down the toilet.  So now I keep
a grocery store bag for the litter, by the litterbox.  Problem is, it just
looks well, not nice.  So I'm wondering how other people keep the litter
once it's out of the box.  Do you use a regular wastebasket with bags
inside?  Is there a special little plastic box with a cover on it that I
should know about?  Or what?

Thanks in advance,

You can use a bucket with a top, and decorate it however you want.
Plain white buckets with tops are available at most hardware stores.

I scoop mine and put it in plastic grocery bags, tie it up
and put it in the kitchen can right away. Every night.

Heck, we take ours right out to the dumpster when we're done.  That's
not something I want hanging around the house, but then again, we have 4
cats now, so it's a lot of stuff to scoop.

I only have one cat and the waste material gets taken outside immediately.

You don't keep your sh.t in a bag under the kitchen sink... or do you?

My trash goes out as soon as it is created.  :)

Well, there is one kitchen in each house... and then there is the summer
place.

The way my husband farts, its hard enough to keep the house smelling
'normal' than add kitty cat poop to the list!  :P

hahahaha! What are you feeding him? ;) Let's talk
about the care and feeding of husbands! You have to
give them lots of legumes, beans, and grain with their
meat and potatoes, but keep Beano on hand!

Gees, is it that long of a walk to the trash outside?

You are such a snot. I want to join the club Sherry belongs to, so I would
just like to say that I do not like the way you post. If you want to get
responses here you might want to lay off the snot. Please post snotty
comments to snot-specific groups. When you post snottily about cats in here,
it
takes up valuable space for non-snotty cat posts and I take offense at that.
Also, what is "Gees?" You would get better responses from US if you
wrote in English, know what I'm TALKING about Joe? I mean, what
language is that, DUNG BEETLE? Huh??!

It's called "baiting". Sort of like "trolling", only a little
different. The bait-or throws snide comments out to a specific poster,
in this case in a thread said poster isn't even participating in. If
the bait-ee responds directly to aforementioned snide remarks...
VOILA!!.... you're well on your way to a 500-post flame thread. Or the
bait-ee can choose to ignore the post.

It's not baiting. It's an accurate portrayal of what you
have been doing lately. I don't need a reaction from you. You may
see it, you may not see it, but this is what you're doing. Hilarious.

Where I live you don't put trash outside.  Racoons, bears, etc. will get
at it and spread it all over the place.  i keep the "scoops" in a
covered bucket lined with a plastic garbage bag.  Once a week it goes to
the dump with my other trash (we have special dump bags that cost $1
each).

Take it up with the post police.

Works like a charm with you.

Your posts to "snotty" posts also take up space... are you being
hypocritical here?

I don't want a better response, your response is just fine. Thank you.

My point is that leaving garbage and waste material pile up inside the
residence isn't the most sanitary of conditions.

Your point was... well... to flame.

I have a low, marshy spot in my yard where I dump the litter.  It's
not any more polluting than an outdoor cat.  I think the litter itself
is made from bentonite clay, which is a natural component of various
soils.

I live in the country on a 5-acre plot.  If I lived in the suburbs, I
would dig a hole and gradually fill it.  Why pay landfill rates for
organic waste?

Can this stuff be mixed into compost, I wonder?

I scoop mine into a bag (either plastic or paper -- the "freebies" I get
with my groceries, if freebie can really be used in that context), and then
I immediately take it to the trash.  However, my sister uses something
called Litter Locker.  It has a long, narrow trash "bag" that is coiled
inside a plastic container.  She drops the litter in, turns a handle one
turn, and the litter in sealed inside (but retained in the plastic
container).  Then do the same thing the next she scoops, etc.  When she
wants to empty it, she cuts off one end and there is some way that the other
end will be tied to prevent "escaping" litter and odor.  It also has
refills.  She is very pleased with it -- but I find my
take-it-out-to-the-trash method to be the most effective.  However, you can
view the "system" I tried to describe here:

Yes there is. There was a time when I used a small "swing bin."

Then I switched to a flushable clumping litter.

That's interesting.  Do you find those in pet stores?

What's the name of the manufacturer, and the product itself?

Thanks,

I found mine at a huge grocery store that sells everything but the kitchen
sink, but I'm sure one can be found at a Wallmart or other department store.

I'm in Canada so (assuming you're in the US) the particular brand I use
probably isn't available - Presidents Choice - Green. You might want to take
a look at Swheat Scoop. It's made from wheat, is flushable and
biodegradable.
