Hi everyone, My cat (female, tabby, indoor, 2 years old), who's never had problems with hairballs before, has over the past few weeks started to cough them up on a regular basis (every 4 to 7 days). Does anyone have any insight into why this might be happening now, or have any experience with this? Does it indicate other problems, or is it just something that can be cleared up with a bit of hairball solution? Any advice would be much appreciated. As my mom says, I'm a worrier. Spring is when they start to occur. Shouldn't be a problem, really. Groom her every day to remove excess hair, and maybe try to feed her some tuna in oil if she will eat it, to help hair pass through her system. I wouldn't worry, keep up the hairball solution as well. Thanks very much for the advice, Alex. I've never heard of a tuna cure. Is tuna the active ingredient, or is it the oil? It's the oil - here in the UK you can buy tinned tuna in oil. My cat won't eat it sadly. Several pet websites suggested Vaseline (petrolem jelly) apllied to his paw, so I tried it. Kitty ate it like a heroin addict! Now he comes runnung when he hears me take the cap off. I give him a dab or two on my finger 2-3 times a week. GOOD NEWS = nary a hairball since then! OldKenGoat |
