Cat Wiping Bottom On Carpet

Hi,

My 2 year old indoor cat has started to wipe her bottom on our carpet
lately. There isn't any strange discharge, just poo.

It seems to mainly occur after she's given a revolution treatment.

Is this due to the revolution treatment, worms, anal sacks?

Im taking her to the vet this week for a check up, but would like other
newsgroup readers thoughts on this.

Thanks

Could be any of those.

I don't know about the possible Revolution connection, but it could be
either of the other two.  It could also be a matter of some poop sticking to
her fur & then she drags her bottom on the floor, trying to rid herself of
the sticky leftovers.

She normally doesn't have a problem with poo sticking to her fur, so its
mostly likely a worm or anal sack issue. The behaviour just tends to occur
for a week after we give her the revolution treatment.

She gets regular worming treatments at the vet, and I was under the
impression that worms were prevented by the revolution which broke the flea
to worm cycle.

Revolution is a topical parasiticide used in the treatment and
prevention of heartworm disease, fleas, the American dog tick, ear
mites and canine sarcoptic mange. When used in cats it also treats
certain hookworm and roundworm disease. But not all worms.

worms are probably not the problem, but its an easy check - drop a
sample by the vets so they can check. If nothing found then have the a
sacks checked. I doubt that the vet will see anything but better safe
than sorry.

my cats ( some of them) do this when they have hair balls. Cat Five
who is short hared does it the most often. I do use a hair ball
treatment but sometimes he gets poo stuck to his hiney and he does the
butt scoot. I have had him checked and he has no worms, a sacks are
ok.

I notice he does this mostly in times like now when they are blowing
coat.

Sounds like clogged glands...

Does she get loose stool from the Revolution for a couple days after?
That would make the glands start to get full, since it is the hardness of the
stool that helps empty them.
Also, if anything is making her itchy (including a mild reaction to the
Revolution itself), that might cause the rump rubbing behavior.

Do ask the vet, though.
