I HATE waiting for vets to call with results, thoughts, diagnoses.
But that's what I'm doing today, pacing and waiting. I dropped Carey
off this morning so they could fit her in during the day (all appts
booked), and now it's the waiting game.
Yesterday, I noticed (or it just began, not positive) that her left
hind leg is not functioning right. a few years ago, when she first
started having problems behaviorally, she had been paralyzed from the
midpoint back and the cause was never found. She recovered from that
after a few weeks and has been ok, physically, since then.
She had started on higher dose Elavil last week for her inappropriate
urination, which didn't help anything, and made her drugged (we then
went to that dose, but split in 2x/day, which made her more alert but
still peeing). I don't know whether she injured herself "missing"
when she jumped, or whether this is related to the original problem,
and that's what this waiting is all about.
Did I mention that I HATE waiting for results?
Meanwhile, she was her good as gold little self for the hour's drive
down to the vet, hanging out in her carrier and just chilling.
If anyone has any guesses, it will at least help pass the time.......

Janet, I don't have any guesses, but lots of sympathy. I hate waiting
too--and waiting to hear what's wrong with your kitty is the worst. I
hope you hear from your vet ASAP!

It might help if we knew more about her leg... is she limping, then
suddenly fine? Does it stick in one position, or do you see her
stretching it out behind her a lot when she stands up? Have you ever
felt or heard a sort of 'click' in that leg when you pick her up?
If yes to any of this, she might have a luxating patella, which is much
more common in dogs and horses, but fairly rare in cats. My cat Meep
has luxating patellas in both hind, but one worse than another. Vet
says her horrible rear leg conformation (if it was much worse, it'd be a
deformity) is a contributing factor.
If that's what this turns out to be, I can tell you more about it. Meep
hasn't had any further problems since recovering from the incident that
resulted in the original diagnosis.

Neurological problems often re-manifest with time. She may have a
pinched nerve, a tumor, or a number of things - you just never know. I
hope it isn't anything serious. How old is she?

Well, after a long day, the results were somewhat inconclusive. No
dislocation or patella problem found. She had been holding it up,
putting it down, holding it up, etc, but also, it was kind of off to
the side and she couldn't seem to support herself on it.
The vet put her on Welactin - an essential FA supplement, and also 1/2
baby aspirin. She felt this was something of an arthritis situation.
Carey is underweight and fairly boney and doesn't have much muscle
mass in her hind end. She'll be 12 in July.
She is walking normally today. I'm supposed to all vet tomorrow to
report in. I see my usual vet (Friday was the other vet in her
practice, who I don't like as much) next Monday, and we'll talk about
more Carey ideas. Another good piece of news - no inappropriate
urination since Friday either!
