Marcia - 22 Apr 2005 09:23 GMT Sorry - I didn't mean to upset anyone with the pics, I hate the gun one too, even though I know it's not real I just thought the kitten was so sweet. I won't post anymore pics.

I hate guns. :) You can post pics if you want to - you just might get better traffic on things like that at the anecdotes group - that's the sort of thing they love there. In fact, they eat it up!
"Tone" is hard to discern on Usenet sometimes. Don't sweat it, seriously.

>Hey, you didn't upset *me*, FWIW. I just said I didn't think the one >was funny. Well, It wasn't a real gun so I suppose it is somewhat forgiveable. Had a real gun been used, I'd be rather p.o.ed. You should never, ever, under any circumstances, point a real gun at anything you're not willing to see a hole punched in.
>I hate guns. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but what is it that you "hate" about guns? Just curious. Have you ever held a gun? fired a gun? Seen one up close? I've always been interest in the psychological basis of the "I hate guns" mentality.
Oh, and for a rather humorous take on "gun violence", check out the "gun cam" at http://www.roughwheelers.com/montego/gun_cam.html

(Not against guns, but all for making sure those who have them are responsible.)

Magic Mood Jeep© - 24 Apr 2005 01:17 GMT > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > willing to > see a hole punched in. Actually, it was a *real* gun, but it was not part of the original kitten pic - it was edited in. In the original, the kitten is 'attacking' a stuffed toy.

One of my best friend's 13 year old son accidently shot himself to death with a hand gun that was stored and locked "properly". He stole the key off of his mother's key ring at night - she didn't even know that he knew she had a key. He was trained to use them and hunted with his father. His 17 year old brother (only sibling) came home from school and found him.
That being what it is, I don't feel there is any need for firearms. Hunting is antiquated and barbaric. Guns "for protection" or "sport" are just stupid.
> Just curious. Have you ever held a gun? fired a gun? Seen one up close? Yes. Yes. Yes. My BIL is a collector. I don't find anything attractive about them, in the least.
And the fact that people think a picture of a kitten being "held up" at gun point is funny, to me reeks of the sickness this society harbors.

It's how they amuse themselves and each other. Meanwhile they each have a cat on their lap and two or three more circling their feet.

Well, last night I watched my dog approach the cat while he was sleeping, and then suddenly back off in terror if he so much as opened his eyes. She did it repeatedly, until finally he got up and charged at her, batting his balled up fists and yowling while the poor dog cringed and cowered.
This is the same dog who flies off the porch, snarling and barking and lunging with her hackles raised when a stranger shows up in the driveway. No one dares get out of their pickup until I call her off.
What do you suppose is going on here?

The dog has probably never seen or heard anything quite like that. The cat is letting it be known that he doesn't want the dog bothering him. I imagine the dog will figure this out pretty quickly. Actually, the cat may be frightened of the dog approaching him while he is in a vulnerable state of sleeping so he is just defending himself but it will work out the same. The dog will figure out not to do that anymore and then they will probably co-exist in harmony except for the occasional incident.

I think your conclusion would be different if you had the benefit of my observations.
He is not afraid of her, nor she of him. She is playing the mouse in a game of cat-and-mouse. He stalks her and bats her around, and she seeks to evade him. She is a cagey dog, and she knows this is a way they can play without anybody getting hurt or any potential for misunderstanding.
She can always go in my bedroom if he is bothering her, because he won't follow her there. But she doesn't. After a few minutes, they stretch out side-by-side in utter contentment.

Charlie, you are much too sane and intelligent for this group. Please be careful about that because as you know it might make some of the Politically Correct Lambies With Nosebleeds feel insecure. Just so you understand. Lynnie is a perpetual victim, and feels she should be protected from the world while she is protecting herself from the truth. Etc. The larger point is Everything Bad that has Happened to Lynnie is Everyone Else's Fault. And it is NOT FUNNY.

>> I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but what is it that you >"hate" about [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] >the key off of his mother's key ring at night - she didn't even know >that he knew she had a key. Well, the gun was not stored "properly" if the kid had access to the key, plain and simple. Your best friend was obviously negligent. Most responsible people keep their guns locked with a COMBINATION lock. Unless someone is telepathic, they ain't getting in.
> He was trained to use them and hunted with >his father. His 17 year old brother (only sibling) came home from >school and found him. Maybe dad just did a lousy job of training the kid but that's probably not the case. I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but the kid was probably a suicide. Because of the stigma associated with suicides, they are often catagorized as "accidents". The classic is the "gun cleaning accident". Don't believe me?? Try a simple test. Point your finger like it's a gun and then try to point your finger at any part of your body where a shot would be fatal. Then ask yourself, "How do you do that accidentally?".
So Mom's careless, and Dad didn't teach the kid the most fundamental rule of firearm safety, and/or the kid was suicidal. Yup, gotta be that evil gun's fault! In Massachusetts, BTW, Mom would have done a minimum of a year in prison.
>That being what it is, I don't feel there is any need for firearms. >Hunting is antiquated and barbaric. The most barbaric thing I have ever seen was a cat ripping a chipmunk to shreads.
> Guns "for protection" or "sport" >are just stupid. The International Olympic Commitee seems to disagree with you. When I was in Atlanta for the '96 Olympics, I saw guns being used for both "Sport" and "Protection".
It must be wonderful living a life that is that safe. I, for one, probably wouldn't be posting here today if I hadn't been carrying a gun one night in Boston.
>> Just curious. Have you ever held a gun? fired a gun? Seen one up >close? > >Yes. Yes. Yes. My BIL is a collector. I don't find anything >attractive about them, in the least. Then in my opinion, though I disagree with you, you have earned the right to express that opinion. It angers me to no end when someone with no knowledge of a subject, be it guns, politics, environmental issues, or whatever, feels a need to advertise their ignorance by having an "opinion" on something that they know nothing about.
>And the fact that people think a picture of a kitten being "held up" at >gun point is funny, to me reeks of the sickness this society harbors. It WAS funny 'cause it wasn't real. Just another piece of "black comedy". Kinda like watching the "Deathmobile" smash through the bleachers in "Animal House". If it were "real", you'd just know someone was going to the hospital instead of taking their thumb out of the Dean's wife's a.s.

It was a story about about a burglar...the man thought he was being burglarized...went around back of the house...getting closer closer...
then...the pic...(just to put it back in context see...)
at face value...it looks like...a gun drawn on a kitten... Oh My Lord!
