Raw diet? and dry food ban?

I've always free-fed dry stuff and serve various healthy wet stuff
twice a day for all my cats. But my current two main boys (Espy and
Nipsy) are really ignoring the wet stuff and lady Jackie is just about
not eating anything. So I really have two issues here. Jackie has to
eat, she is around 5 pounds and going downhill. That is mostly because
of the IBD. So, since the Feline IBD group suggests a raw diet without
grains, it looks like Nature's menu is the choice since a local place
stocks it. My vet is not in favor of a raw diet but really doesn't
have too much to offer for Jackie at this time. We're already on
prednisone.

I bought a three pound bag yesterday. It suggests giving the cats a
tablespoon of yogurt a few hours before feeding so they get some
healthy bacteria in their gut. Well, Jackie has just started a round
of antibiotics because of mouth drooling so that compounds the issue
but I can't do anything about it and I'm getting pretty desperate for
her to eat more than a tiny bit.

Anyway, this morning I gave her just a bit of the raw stuff. She loves
it. Nipsy sniffed it and walked away. Espy ate some. Nobody got too
much.

I let the dry food start running out yesterday. I got some complaints
this morning but left it empty. Should be an interesting scene when I
get home tonight. Hopefully Jackie will really like the raw stuff and
it won't get her sicker.

Odd thing though. The raw food is for cats and dogs. And I didn't
notice anything special about Taurine (sp?). I'll have to look into
that.

I'll look forward to hearing about how this goes. I'm really glad
Jackie likes the raw stuff, as she is so fragile.

It's evening. The boys are miffed and staring at the empty dry bowl. I
guess I should put it away. I split a can of PetGuard Liver, something,
something for the boys. It got a lukewarm reaction. I gave Jackie a
half of one of the raw burgers, chopped up well because she has no
teeth. She wasn't pleased. I microwaved it for half a minute (it was
still cold from the refig) and she absolutely ripped into it. Ate just
about all of it. Now she's sleeping it off. I'll have to wake her up
for her prednisone, antibiotics, and ear salve a bit later. Oh, I
didn't mention the ear stuff. That will be another post. For the past
three days her butt hasn't dripped just about at all. Very weird. I
wonder what the raw stuff will do?

Funny you should say this--we found that Buddha's empty bowl
reminded her the first day (we just forgot about it) so we removed
it and she did not beg for dry again.

Isn't it wonderful to see a fragile cat that really needs the nutrition
dig in and eat it up!

No butt dripping is definitely good!
