Hi,

My cat Piper is just over 1 yr old and shes been drinking
lots of water in the last day.  I keep a small dish near her
food which she tends to ignore and a short but wide glass in the upstairs
bath.  This morning the glass was only about 1/4 full while
typically she only drinks less than 1/4 over night.

She also is in the tub much sooner than usual and shes been in the tub
twice looking like she wants me to turn on the water and when I do
shes more interested in drinking than playing.

She also isn't happy about me picking her up if I touch her
tummy at all.  She is ok with being picked up and held by her feet.

Is something going on?

She looks like this:

(shes on the left on the keyboard while ignoring "no" and beeps)

Is she on dry or wet food? Or combo?
Are you missing any small objects?
Has she been dewormed lately? Does she go outside? Could she have gotten into
anything poisonous?
How do her eyes look? Skin elasticity? Gum color?

Probably.
Did you ask your vet?

Any sudden changes in behavior are best checked out with your vet. Many
problems can be caught early and fixed more easily this way (esp. poisoning,
which if caught early can be fixed but if you wait can be deadly).
Better safe than sorry has always been my motto.

Thanks everyone for the answers.

: Is she on dry or wet food? Or combo?
Shes on dry.

: Are you missing any small objects?
I found a furball like mess that included parts of a moth.
I'm think that was the problem.

: anything poisonous?
Only the moth.

: How do her eyes look? Skin elasticity? Gum color?
They looked normal.  At the time she was very sensitve and didn't want to
be picked up.  She was quite happy to watch me try to get her to play.

: Probably.

By the time I got in touch with the vets office, she was back her
normal bouncing aff the walls and letting me pick her up.  The
conclusion is don't eat big bugs.

I'm glad it turned out okay.

LOL
Yeah, a couple years ago Rowan made herself sick eating those asian beetle
things (that look like ladybugs, but not). We had a big "invasion" of them
that year and it was nearly impossible to keep them out of the house (my
screen has holes thanks to miss Rowan). She had a feast, then promptly puked
up a ton of shells. (ewwwww)

Why do they lock gas station bathrooms? Are they afraid
someone will clean them?

Those things stink to high heaven too - can't imagine they were any
more appealing the second time around!

My sister's house has a huge invasion every year.  She says she
vacuums them daily, but there seems to be no end to them.

She's adorable. You should get her blood checked. A noticable change in
water uptake can be indicative of an underlying problem. Even though she is
young, it is possible to have diabetes or other disease. PLease call your
vet.

She is really beautiful, and she really needs to see a vet.
