Bone Clicking?

Laura M - 05 Apr 2005 20:45 GMT It's so weird. My beloved cat, Hobbes, has this clicking sound when he walks. He's not limping at all and continues to run and play as if nothing is wrong. But this clicking sound is emitting from his left paw (arm). It kind of sounds like a bone clicking and has been around for about 3 weeks now. I thought it would go away at first but it hasn't. I don't want to take him into the vet because he doesn't seem to be affected and my vet would take xrays and charge another small fortune. (I've been there a lot yet with my other cat.)
Has anyone ever experienced this?
Mathew Kagis - 05 Apr 2005 20:59 GMT Never had this experience myself...but, a freind had a cat who's bones were making noises & he took Jive to a kitty chiropractor... worked wonders... Good luck.

Same thing. Didn't slow down her tearing around or playing but I could hear her walk "creak, creak, creak". It seems to have gone away now though. (Just watch. Now that I say that, she will start creaking again tonight.)

Of course, I'm assuming she's not creaking tonight. :^) Thanks!

Not with a cat, but I have a bone clicking in my knee and it hurts like hell. Your cat really should see the vet and have the xray to determine whether it's arthritis or an injury and to find out the proper treatment.

Laura M - 07 Apr 2005 16:05 GMT It's people like you who are sad. You are so judgmental and will throw a verdict down before knowing the entire story. It's people like you who give the newsgroups a bad name.

Bill collectors don't bother me as much as thinking my kitty may be in pain. Cat's are *SO* good at hiding pain. Just read some of my posts about Bandit's recent trauma and how badly and how long she was in pain *without me even knowing*!! When we did realize what was going on, I just charged the emergency vet bill to the Visa card and I'll worry about making those payments later.
One of the responsibilities of having a cat is providing for their health care, so I just suck it up and do it even if it puts me in debt. And on the topic of debt...
[OT]
Right after my divorce from the abusive, alcoholic @$$HOLE (who didn't pay child support, cancelled the insurance on our kids, stole my car, left me *thousands* of dollars in debt, and harrassed me at every turn until I threatened to run him over in the street), I was in *bad* financial straits. Bill collectors would call almost daily. Most were understanding when I told them I was really trying to pay off my debts. But one really persistent jerk would call me daily just to complain about his unpaid bill. Finally I got fed up with him and said, "Look, I only have so much money coming in every month. It doesn't amount to the cost off all my bills. I'm trying to be fair to everyone, so every month I put all the names of my creditors in a hat and then draw out names until my money is all gone. That way everybody at least gets a fighting chance to get paid. But if you call me one more time this month, Buster, your name isn't even going into the hat!!!" ;> The kids and I still use that on each other and laugh - "you agravate me any more, mom, and your name isn't going into the hat!!!" [Some time I'll have to tell y'all about the time I really did try to run over the @$$HOLE with my car - it's a funny story!]

The last time I heard this kind of sound, I looked and found Pudge (who was older than I realised) had a claw overgrown into her pad; the clicking was the claw hitting the wood floor. OWWWWW! The veterinarian treated her; the only comfort to me was that it didn't seem to hurt her when he cut it off and put antibiotic on it. She also got 10 days of pills.
I'm only throwing that out there in case it's a possibility.

Laura M - 07 Apr 2005 23:29 GMT Thank you for constructive suggestions. Geeez...I've noticed that there are some holier-than-thou people on this board! I hate that. Those people are why some people hate cats.
The good news is the clicking seems to have subsided. I know sometimes kitties get stuff like humans and that little things go away. I really don't like to run to the vet every time some little thing happens unless I feel a need. And believe me, he is extremely well taken care of. I brush his teeth, got his senior blood panels, groom him, give him omega-3 fatty acids every day, play with him, cuddle him, etc. He's extremely spoiled and happy.

Well, you know, I think it is reasonable to expect people who really like cats to think you ought to take the cat in when you can hear its bones clicking around. I just do not think that is unreasonable. You can--and do--do what you want, but don't expect people here to congratulate you on saving money by not taking your cat to the vet. Jesus.

I can't really tell who you're replying to here, but if it was to my post, I'm a bit puzzled. I never implied that you were not taking care of your cat. I told you how *I* felt about things, and if you had read anything about what I'd just been through with my 15-year-old you'd know why I feel that way (and even if you had not read about Bandit, I still don't know what I might have said that you would take umbrage to - I didn't say anything at all about you).
I'm also not getting why you said that "those people" are why some people hate cats. I could understand someone not liking a person because of the way that person acts, but why would someone hate an *cat* because of the way a person acts????
<puzzled> But then again I'm always puzzled by people who come here for advice and then get angry about the advice given. If you knew what you were going to do before you ever posted, why did you post?????????
Hugs,

Some folks, when they ask for advice, get a little defensive when they get told they don't love their pets as much as the poster of such acusations.... Funny, eh?
They must just be thin skinned, uncaring, unloving pet owners with no common sense.....;-)

I told her to take her cat to the vet. Are Chablis and Muskrat still alive and in one piece, you cat-abusing piece of sh.t? :)
